The Free IBC of Aquaponics

Hey guys. Great video. I watched the whole thing because I'm changing my design for my second system from netab's setup to the one you guys detailed in the IBC document. However, I do have a couple of questions.

1. Could you guys give me a detailed rundown on how you guys were able to get the standpipe to go through the cap of the IBC? From my experience the thread in the cap did not run through to the inside so I am a little confused as to how you guys were able to get the standpipe going through there without just siliconing it up like crazy. Or does the outer diameter of the 25 mm part fit perfectly in the inner diameter of the 50 mm pipe? Or is the standpipe just sitting on top of that fitting and not threaded or fitted in?

2. How necessary are the wooden beams? I have concerns about leaving it just metal on metal as I can imagine an earthquake or something making it slide off. Would I be able to get away using cable ties or rope? I am wary of using cable ties as they get older and brittle I can imagine them snapping. Also, if you weren't able to source used lumber what would you recommend?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that new lumber would also do the job.

Rather than cable ties or rope I'd look to use either stainless steel hose clamps, as used to hold radiator hoeses and the like on, or if you can find them in a suitable size, wire rope saddles like these:

Growbed auto siphen assembly kit

It is made assuming a standard 300mm (1 foot) deep grow bed. The bed will be filled by a regulated continuous flow from the pump.

When the bed is full and begins to overflow down the internal upstand of the auto siphon assembly, a siphon is established.
The water is rapidly evacuated from the grow bed.
When the water is evacuated the siphon is broken and the bed will commence filling again.

Oh, Im so glad his seeds have 'Individuality' packaging... I find that trait somewhat lacking in todays youth.
Perhaps they may now grow into something with 'Peasonality'!?!

Don't you just love these band wagon jumpers?
Especially his "vegitables" from "liters" or "litres" of water, with "siphens" or "auto siphens" with a cycling time of "four weeks"!! before getting your choice of 50 fish . . .
Must definitely have very special IBC's for that to occur.
I will be reporting on ebay about this very spurios creature.

Downloads have slowed a little from the initial rush, but there are still quite a few.. For the first 2 days of August there were over 330 downloads.. At least that's my assumption and calculation, there was 12.86 GB of bandwidth for downloads of that file, at 38MB at comes out to about 338 downloads..

Released on the 20th, so there were 11 days till the end of July and over that 11 days, a bit shy of 3000 downloads.. Thats not bad, certainly getting aquaponics to a few more people that had never heard of it I imagine..
