 I think we have cycled
Ammonia & Nitrites are now trace with 5-10ppm Nitrates.... :headbang:
pH is still 8.2..
All yabbies present & accounted for... :D

Not much happening with the other system yet due to weather & other commitments...
This is where we got up to last Sunday...

Was going to start a new thread on the IBC system but no point until it's running me thinks...

Maybe you need a roofed area. My system has a cover so that I can garden (play) all day and night, rain, hail or shine. :flower: :flower: :flower: It doubles as a rainwater collector to be stored in a 4500 litre tank to supplement the aquaponic system. :)

Looking into that but will just do a Hoop set up with shade cloth & a plastic lining until the $$ allow for a permanent structure...
I have a Chippy mate on the scrounge for me, he supplied all the tin for the Wicking beds for nix & a father who cant throw anything useful out so might get one up before the end of Summer yet... A set up like yours is the goal...
A friend visited you the other week & put us onto your "living" chook feeder...
That's another job on the list now...
Thanks... :thumbright:

Aha we have a few people who looked at that feeder and who thought it was a good idea and amazed by the simplicity . "Clucker tucker", was named by Natalie and Redbeard when they visited, was it them or someone else?

That's why we are training the Spawn **Nods** They are getting very good at it... **Nods** :D

I think I may have to rethink the whole Yabbies only in the Barrel system...
pH 8.2
Ammonia trace meaning between 0 & 0.25ppm
Nitrites are at 0
Nitrates are at trace meaning between 0 & 5ppm

Thinking I should take the Yabbies out & putting them in a ½ Barrel until the IBC is set up & putting some goldies back in... There are 4 x 10cm & 6 x 4-6cm yabbies in there at the moment feeding on lettuce & beetroot leave shoved into some pipe fittings to keep them on the floor & a few bits of sweet potato.. Think they would like the barrel after being in the tank inside for a few weeks now...
Is there anything that I could be missing here re the nutriments ??? There are about 20 Broccoli sprouts, 2 juvenile Broccoli, Celery, 10 small Lettuce that just appear to be in stasis as well as about 4 Cucumber seeds I put in yesterday...

Have sorted out a fix for the Barrel system so we can put the surviving Goldies back in to get the levels back up again...

I was hoping we had cycled but am thinking that maybe the Yabbies just don't poop enough as I mentioned before... Hope the bacteria are still present.. :dontknow:
The Yabbies will be moved out to the sump tank in the IBC system by the weekend with a few small feeder fish hopefully...
Will post a new thread for the IBC system tomorrow night if I find the time...

I dont think yabbies do enough of anything to run a system but others no doubt will disagree and the goldies need some high protein pellets/crumbles etc, not just flakes to do much.
I see the AP bug has hit hard , so go for it :thumbright:

Have been feeding small barra pellets to the Goldies in the house & they are hoovering them up at the moment... Gave all the flakes to my sister a while back...
