 Hola from Dominican Republic.

I am a Permaculturist living and working in Dominican Republic, originally from Vancouver Canada. We are working with local organizations here to spread island wide Aqauponics and other newly developed technologies in fish and vegetable production.

Our newly formed company is Global Aquaponics

Nuestra empresa recién formada es acuaponia global

We started of over 20 years ago in Hydroponics and have since embraced Aqauponics since it was part of my Permaculture training. We are looking to work with any government group or organization globally. The biggest project to date we set up was in Croatia. :)

After a several year hiatus in the industry we decided to return and go world wide. We are sharing information with other aquaponics practioners on developing affordable systems for those less fortunate especially in 3rd world and developing countries. We have come up with some possible solutions but as of yet have not set up a pilot project.

We are presently planning worksops here in the Dominican Republic with the aid of the Canadaian Embassy Trade Commissioner, Chamber of Commerce, NGO,s Universties and other Corporate entities.

Dominican Republic :)

Given the availability of cheap labor in 3rd world countries, wouldnt it be worth someone manually moving the water back and forth if they can market vegies/fish that could be sold at a premium?

I always wonder about using manual labor like this, even when it's really cheap. Can you get more calories out of the system than you put in to moving the water?

Even if you're paying someone a slave's wage to sell premium crops, that seems to me to be not worth the tradeoff.
