Hi:

I'm thinking about using a propellor-style powerhead to push water across the surface of my FT for aeration for trout. This might be in lieu of a linear piston air pump if possible. The propellor style powerheads would seem to move a lot of water across the surface for little power and expense.

Can anyone with experience with these powerheads comment please? Thanks for the info!

Comments about the other powerheads with Venturi, that pump across the water surface would be welcome too!

I.e. like this Koralia Evolution model. I haven't found anywhere on the Internet anyone using this for outdoor ponds (always says for reef aquariums). Also, thinking about powerheads with venturis they would not flow as much because a lot of flow energy would be cut back by the venturi restriction.

I havent used the powerheads outdoors in a pond but I have in a vat outside that I grew corals in. The hard part is going to be mounting it but other than that it shouldnt be a problem. Something else you might try is an airlift in a large diameter pipe (4-6"). You can move a shit ton of water with very little air flow (a small aquarium pump) as long as you arent trying to bring it above the surface of the water. Make the lift go all the way to the bottom of the tank but inject the air half way down. It will create suction and pull from the bottom of your tanks and bring it to the top without having to place the airline all the way at the bottom of the tank (Letting you get away with a smaller pump).
