Renovations have been done!
We've slowly had fish dying in this system for some time now and with all perameters good the only thing we seem to be able to put it down to is the galv tank.As posted previously the sealer we used is no good with rust still coming through.Anyway the death count started to get more serious so we bit the bullet and bought a new tank then modified the system to get a bit more winter sun.
With general life being extemely hectic at the moment it took us about 4 days to do the changover. We put the fish into a separate tank for the duration then introduced them to their new home last night.
All up in the last 2 wks we've lost about 20 fish out of 85. Hopefully all good from here.

Hope that tank helps solve the problems then... I'd say lack of air certainly isn't going to be a problem. :)

Yeah, like the "spa" effect.
We,ve got all the air stones on the high side of the tank opposite the pump.In their makeshift tank we found that all the poo etc. settled in the only quiet part of the tank ie: away from the aerators so hopefully the pump will get it all.

Put your returns on an angle so the water swirls - all solid material will head to the centre of the tank.

OBO, we have a pipe going directly into ft, with 3 holes drilled into an end cap. This is placed to create that swirl. The tank is also on a bit of a slope but I don't know how much that achieves.
No more deaths so far...

All still going well in this system. No more fish deaths so hopefully the new tank has done the job. Fish are eating like mad and plants are growing well. Our broccoli are late this year but it's the first time that we have grown them without an aphid problem, yah. We have already harvested about 5 or 6 heads in these photos
