years ago when I started our veggie garden out the back ( before AP took over ) a mate came over and saw capsicums growing on a plant and asked how I got them on there ...

he still refuses to eat anything I grow at home cause there must be soemthing wrong with it because it doesn't come from the shop

even my own mother buys rocket, lettuce and celery every week from the shop, either forgetting I'm overflowing with it all, or "but theyre not clean" or "arent they all weeds but cause they're in the garden" or some other reason for not walking over and grabbing fresh pesticide freee home grown ...

eh I give up, more for me

This one has to take the cake!...

My wife was explaining aquaponics to a young school teacher (who had never heard of it)... she thought it sounded disgusting and said: "Don't the vegetables tasted like fish poop?"

My wife asked her if the veggies she bought from the shop tasted like cow manure or chicken manure... and she said: No!... why would they?

I dug some spuds out of the veg garden a couple of weeks ago, and one of our kid's friends was over, about 8-9yo, and she was absolutely amazed to see that spuds came out of the ground.

Kids come over our place all the time and they spin out at the veggie garden and handling earthworms etc... what are parents teaching their kids these days, what knowledge are they passing down?

Yeah, I've eaten chicken feet a few times, not exactly one of my favourites, a little bit gristley for my likings.. I have a friend who loves to eat dim sum and he's always ordering chicken feet and tripe and anything else he figures might gross other people out..

Last time I went out to a different restaurant with him he ordered duck feed with cashews.. That wasn't to bad..

Yep, it astounds me also. Sadly Jamie Oliver and the other programs are providing an important social service. Its not just teenagers, its their parents.....

Had a look in the new town houses across the road - 2 where one house was. Both bigger than the 1 house was on the block and both with 1 small square of grass 2.5mX2.5m. People want 'low maintenance living'.

These are Town houses which will sell to a family with Kids(now or soon). They wont ever see a garden.

know what you mean, around the corner from work theres a family who live in group of 2 story townhouses none of which had any garden and their kids just play on the street

its not too busy but verry close to the corner ..... safe huh

Cheers

I always get more expensive mushrooms at the stupidmarket (if the local veg shop is closed), and they usually go through as just button mushrooms.
You can really confuse them with ginger, "Daah, whats this"

For me reading an international forum, I get confused as to the different names people give to the various vegetables.
Zucchini = Courgette
Eggplant = Aubergine
Capsicum = Pepper (Bell Pepper as opposed to a Chilli Pepper - which is simply known as "Chilli")
