Mate if ya can, feed em more, as long as test all stay fine and you are not getting a build up of uneaten food. I have put in a few swirl outlets to fix this in my system, and also the middle sump tank actually acts as a solids trap, which I will need to clean out soon.
My 70 or so trout are eating roughly 250gms a day when time permits, they would all be around the 120-150mm mark, with the odd +/-.

Just watched the vid, looks like you have similar varying sizes, those silvers will become feed pretty soon I reckon. Also are the two brother trout still fighting!

Found 3 SP tonight floating upside down next to the SLO.
Water temp hasn't been below 12 degrees for the past 2 months and every now and then the silvers will feed. I don't think I have many left :dontknow: Less than 10.
Not quite sure why they are dying? Possibly they may be a little stressed out due to 200-300g trout sharing the tank with them? I wanted to separate the SP's from the trout but since I've had them they are to difficult to catch and they seem to be able to fit through the net. I don't think that these one have grown at all :-x Lucky to be 50mm in over 12 months
Im hoping that I can get a few through to the warmer weather..
bring on the trout.

matt

After I tranfered the remaining 3 SP out of the system and into the heated aquarium in the shed, I still lost one more for an unknown reason and another one I think I killed by squashing it with the filter. the remaining 1 went in to the trout tank for feed.

Wouldn't surprise me if it's the trout...

Sometimes you get deformed silvers, we've had a fair few, I had one that hardly grew at all in 4 years, he had a deformed mouth and couldn't eat pellets, didn't stop him trying, just couldn't eat em.. I don't know what he ate, must have been algae..

yep they look a lot bigger that the one a pulled out 2 weeks ago that weighed in at 230grams.
all the rest would be hanging around the 200 - 250gram mark. i think only having between 12 & 15 trout in each system (2) for the first 3 months has meant that they didn't have the competition for the feed???
Of course its not true if you can not prove it...
I think Smoked Trout may be on this weeks menu :) :)

the dreaded fungi claimed most but over the past month or so they have been dying with some messed up looking tails.

found 4 silvers dead or about to die this week. I certainly don't have many left. I would say less than 5.
Trout are still going great.

pulled a couple out today and smoked them.

Must admit they tasted much better then the last few lots that I've eaten.

this time I placed the cleaned trout into a brine of 6 cups of water, 6 table spoons of crushed salt, 2 table spoons of brown sugar & juice of 1 lemon for 1 1/2 hours.
Hot smoked for 30 minutes. :eat:

Plant wise is going ok, plenty of lettuce and rocket.

Matt

You still got the silvers in with the trout? Trout trying to eat them now they are big enough? Nice size on the Trout. I dipped the net on the weekend and got one of a similar size. Didn't measure or weigh since if went straight back in.

been in and out a bit the last month.
had a friend looking after the system while I've been away.
fish are all still go great, but have not put on much size. pulled out a couple for dinner tonight. taste great but both were around the 350gram. got a couple that might be touching the 400g.
tonight's dinner was totally produced at home
here's a video that I took a couple of nights ago.

Mattry, its good to see how well a mature system can survive with little to no maintenance.
What was the duties of your "friend" just feed the fish?
Which tank are the ones I gave ya?
