Who can help me . I have been doing AP for over 3 years now but I have never had a sea shell looking creature grow in my fish tanks. I don't know where the hell they have come from , I didn't put them in there. There must be about 20 of them allready. They are betwwen 5mm and 10mm big. They are dark in collour. They cling to the side of the fish tank at about the water level. They are only in the tank that I have my Barramundi in . When I work out how to post a pic I will do so.

Yeah sounds a bit like snails... Youd be surprised where they come from, very easy to contaminate a system with snails..

click on the full editor button at the bottom of the quick editor box. and below that box is the add picture box. Your pic needs to be 800x600 or less. You can put in three pics per post.

Don;t know how "bad" it is necessarily, just know that when you get them they get everywhere and can be hard to get rid of...

Any way to control snails biologically? Yabbies eat snails, don't they? We don't have yabbies. would trout eat snails? Or crabs? I got snails in my system and they are breeding like mad. Now I can see little clear bundles stuck to the walls of my tank. Snail eggs I guess. There is going to be a population explosion of snails in my system soon :upset:

there are aquatic "assassin snails" that prey on other snails..(i think they eat shrimp too)
in the u.s. we have "shell crackers" - a type of bluegill that feeds on them..

Yes I think they are water snails , and gee can they breed quick. For every 20 big ones I have just thrown out of the tank I am sure there was probably another couple of hundred little ones I couldn't see.

Why throw them out? You could just squish 'em then let the fish eat 'em.
