I just acquired an air stripper tank and system, but don't know how to hook it up or how it really works. Can anyone assist me in getting it started up? Does the stripper remove all solids and nutrients in the water column and can I use the water for my grow beds after it is stripped.

thanks,
fishmanzzz

No idea what you're talking about - it's not aquaculture industry terminology - photos or diagrams required

Wikipedia says that it is...
"Air stripping is the transferring of volatile components of a liquid into an air stream. It is a chemical engineering technology used for the purification of groundwaters and wastewaters containing volatile compounds."

Essentially it's spraying out water in a fine mist in order to make the volatile gases evaporate or be extracted. Whilst it would certainly work for noxious gases, it would have absolutely no benefit or use in an Aquaponics setup.

Is it perhaps a protine filter? In which case it sends bubbles up a column forcing protines to collect in a small chamber. If so, they are not really needed in AP...most of that will get filtered out by the GBs.

interesting thought...it would have to have an effect on cooling the water also...could be a win/win.

I've been wondering if aerating my water (a lot) actually causes a significant loss of dissolved ammonia? This would mean a loss of nutrients for an AP system.

I like the idea that you could use this to help get rid of high ammonia levels.

So it's a de-gasser - primarily they're used for decreasing CO2 and can also be used to enrich dissolved O2 levels as well.

Again, you're unlikely to get much help without photos as they come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

I think it might be useful as a means of cooling the water so cooler crops like lettuce would be possible with the hot summers in Texas. I would think it would remove most of the moam accumalations so might be very useful to an acquaponics system.
