I have 7 goldfish, they have developed some white spots nothing too serious at the moment, but im looking to put trout into the system.. I assume they will catch whatever it is

should I salt and see?

I have never really treated sick fish before

the fish dont seem to be acting strangly they are eating and everything, I think it was just a little cold and I wasnt paying them enough attention for a little bit.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

Salt to 3ppt, and if it doesnt clear up before your ready to add the trout then remove them and do a good water change before adding the trout.
