The system has a float valve cutoff Chainsaw... and still had about 300mm of water in the tank...

Problem was most of the airlines had been ripped out of the tank....

On a hot day... with 200kg of fish... in 300mm of water.... things just weren't going to work out... well not for more than an hour anyway....

With the recent wet summer and winter... and about three years of exposure to the elements.... the flooring under one of the grow beds has rotted... and the grow bed collapsed down onto the pier...

So I've had to remove the media so that I can remove the bed, and replace the flooring...

Thought I'd post a couple of pics of the state of the grow bed after three years... the pics represent what remains after a fairly good wash with the hose

Insignificant buildup... and this has been a fairly highly stocked, fed, and planted system...

What do you think is the main ingredient of that goop .....is it fish waste, breakdown of the clay or rotted vegetation ?

looks like fish poo and a bit of rotted roots to me. if the clay was really breaking down much you wouldn't see most of it looking so intact.
