I've never gotten to use the eco rose myself. I expect Rupe can tell you how it acts with pH. As far as adding to system I would probably be using a small measuring spoon until I found how it affects pH. Perhaps use a measured container of your system water and add some eco rose in small measured amounts to figure out how much it takes to adjust the system water a particular amount or something.

I seem to have a vague memory of Janet using potassium bicarbonate to adjust her pH up and her system was something like a 300 gallon stock tank I think and she was probably using like a spoonful or something every so often.

I think the seasol would be the better choice for foliar feeding unless you are seeing some mildew problems in which case the eco rose for spraying instead.

Mrs bullwinkle went to a plant store to buy some new baby spinach, and found they all had the same tiny egg things as mine do.

And mine have started hatching. I still haven't found what they are so I think they must be flying things' otherwise the leaves should be crawling with them by now.



Something tells me there is going to be a baby spinach shortage.

Those eggs on the right look like they might be taking shape into something with a head.

As soon as I get around to learning electronics, Ill crate a proper grow house data logger bristling with temperature probes and whatever else I can attach.

I'll do min max for a while to see if there is a genuine trend

Hi Bullwinkle.... EcoRose (Potassium BiCarbonate)...is a great product because it not only buffers pH (BiCarbonate)... but provides a Potassium boost...

Potassium is a common deficiency, and inter-relates with Calcium uptake...

It can also be applied (mixed with Seasol) as a foliar spray to combat powdery mildew...

It will buffer pH almost immediately.... normally I would use about a teaspoon in 1000L... so your system would probably only require a pinch...

Add a good pinch, wait 30 minutes, and test your pH.... I wouldn't buffer past 7.0...

If you want a self-regulating buffer... sprinkle some shell grit through your grow bed(s)... it will automatically buffer and hold your pH to around 7.2....

If you need a fast powerful buffer... use "slaked lime"... brickies lime... Calcium Hydroxide... cheap as chips, but very powerful...

ok so I added about a rice grain of eco rose

and saw these large bubbles within about half an hour. Looked like a change in surface tension rather than those little bubbles you get with fish stress



then saw these this morning...



and noticed a fly in the hothouse. First time.

I did a head count and found this guy had done a runner. He was a foot away from the water, has an eye missing, and smells only a tad, so Im guessing we went over the wall last night. That would have meant he jumped out within a few hours of adding the eco rose.

Any thoughts?

fish looks fine gills are healthy, looks like a fish washed up on the last tide

160mm long. I think he is my smallest.

All the others look content, although I did see one last night do the flashing thing. I cant remember if it was this one.

i get the bubbles, but they usuually go away overnight. never had fish bothered, andf i add a tespoon (ish) to 1000L or water . . .

So perhaps he just felt like running away from home.

Witht the warmer water they have been much more active. Maybe he scored a tasty bug or something, and got chased around by the others

I'm going to see if I can get spiders to live where I want them to.

I figure they are the ultimate self cleaning reusable sticky trap.

Can anyone see an issue with using plastic cups as NFT pots?

I drilled 5 holes in the bottom of each. Drilled them all at the same time. Worked a treat.

The cups won't allow as free an access for the roots to go out or flow of water/air but I've used yogurt cups with holes punched in them for NFT myself and it seems to work. I like to use wicks with mine.
