Got your attention didnt I you dirty, dirty people?? Shame shame....

Sorry, its quit simple actually, Im planing on boxing my IBC in with timber slats and Im too lazy to research what precautions I should take soooooo.... whats the go?
Do I need to use a type of timber? Obviously something non-toxic. Do I need to coat it in a marine sealant or something?
So, wood! What do I need to know??

If its on the outside toxicity wont be a problem, MDF and chip boards dont like water at all, Dont use the cheapest ply either (made in china) get a aussie made marine ply, couple of layers of paint, laquer or oil to preserve that nice wood look

I would be inclined to give marine ply a miss....not saying it is no good, but if you look at plywood, outdoor ply is sufficient, especially if you are going to paint it. Marine ply is substantially more expensive than outdoor ply.

I also thought of the Morris minor woody. And the other woody too. I would be weary of planks for a tank lid being treated. In South Africa they use cyanide for treating timber. Would not want that stuff dripping into the system water now would ya...

Treated timber would be a big no-no. Could I use a pine and then coat it? There must be someone out there that has boxed in their set up. Needs to be rain proof.

I have placed timber supports supports over my FT's and covers/lids, untreated oregon and redgum sleepers.

Here is one that comes to mind, can you tell that Boris is an artist and likes aesthetics?

Starts on pages 7 and I think there may be some discussion before that!

Ive used hardwood decking timber slats with great success....just oil it every few years with a natural decking oil.

Not the cheapest option but looks fantastic. Old hard wood fencing looks great too
