yep and about all you can do for the fish is salt and/or perhaps a squish of aloe while a scrape on human skin would probably get some hydrogen peroxide and then neosporin or something.

A few days ago a lettuce seedling came up around the strawberry plants. I transplanted it to the letuce section.

I just went outside to the GB, and think I may have just made history.

I might be the first person to have lovingly transplanted a thistle in aquaponics.

Those are some kickarse bandaids. Where were they when those things were happening to me every day?

I had to make do with something that screamed "nothing to see here".

Do silvers have the very cutty gill spike that some other native perch have?

Callop has them so I thought silvers might. I was trying to grab on the other day, and then thought twice about it.

It turns out, if I put my hand in the tank, they swim away, then after 30 seconds or so take cover under my hand.

"Has that gigantic hand always been in here?"
"I cant remember because of my 30 second memory myth."

Due to the BYAP system trials thread, and my ongong devotion to siphons, I thought I'd try this....

It triggers every 4 minutes or so even with the 70LPH trickle that I call a pump, and only dumps the top 2 inches of water.

The way I see it I still get the advantages of a rapid water movement drawing from the bottom, perhaps pulling sludge and anaerobic areas to new locations, but with constant flood, and all the extra water that comes with that.

It's just a test, but aside from the new bong sound the people next door hear every 4 minutes, I think it might be worthwhile.

I was digging around in my media and for the first time noticed solids. It smelt delicious. Fresh and clean like good quality soil, so I dont think there was anything wrong with it (I think its just my system maturing), but it got me thinking about water movement within my system.

I have a feeling plants might like to have wet feet, but well drained knees.

The water is all nice and clear (in fact so clear I cant even see it) still and really nothing has changed except the system now holds a stack more water.

yes, very clear water.

And your idea about plants liking wet feed but not knees, yea, I just usually stated it more like wet toes fine, feet even for most plants but they don't like wet ankles.
