I have found float switches that cab turn a sump on and float switches that can turn water flow on however could someone point me to a float switch that powers electricity off? (had a gb overflow last night and lost 2/3rds of my sump tank water last night >.< I'd rather shut the pump off than pump it dry

Lol - failed to mention I have found some even with a alarm but in the 50$ + range was hoping for a cheaper alternative

And the other confusing part is can these things be reversed? Most seem to be designed for the opposite effect - to turn on when water goes up - I want it to turn off when water goes down

Switches can be Normally Open (NO) or Normally Closed (NC). A float switch simply triggers when it reaches a pre-set level. In this case you'll need a NC (ie on) to power your pump which will then go NO when it fills up (FT) or empties out (ST) to prevent overflows.

It's just a matter of getting the right option for the right setting. Some I have seen have contact options for both.

As to where to get them. Here in the UK local Aquatic suppliers stock them quite often. Failing that local DIY stockists.

Something like this? Should be readily available in the US.. PLug in float switch, plug pump into float switch plug, controls power to the pump at the plug, via the float.
