Is it working any better for you Don? As the others mentioned, shouldn't really be the forum update that's causing problems.. :dontknow:

Yeah I guess that's the let down for 99.9% of people, that there's hardly the slightest difference visually.. Big differences in the back end though, as well as security. No having to manually search through about 50 spammers a day for Jaymie any more.. And who knows perhaps now google may actually index some of the pages....

Now we are in an up to date position, and we've found a good phpBB bloke, we could perhaps make other changes or mods.. I haven;t really looked much at what is possible...

but what will I do with all my spare time? :dontknow:

hey Boss! you know that I've still had to authorise a few new members over the last week?

Anyone else ever seeing a message like this when they try to post?

Quote:
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

MySQL server has gone away [2006]

SQL

SELECT bbcode_id, bbcode_tag, bbcode_helpline FROM phpbb_bbcodes WHERE display_on_posting = 1 ORDER BY bbcode_tag

BACKTRACE

FILE: includes/db/mysql.php
LINE: 175
CALL: dbal->sql_error()

FILE: includes/functions_display.php
LINE: 887
CALL: dbal_mysql->sql_query()

FILE: posting.php
LINE: 1481
CALL: display_custom_bbcodes()

I've seen it 2 or three times today, but usually if I hit back, then I try again it goes away...

That's an error with your host - http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/gone-away.html

Re activating users: Don't. The users in that list are the users who haven't confirmed their email address, which in the majority of cases means that they have either used a fake email address or they are a bot. The only approval you have to do is in the MCP.

okay, I have noticed that all of the ones that require activation are from the US and seem to have legitimate homes and such

Hey mate..

Yeah I disabled the blocking, seemed we were getting a few members complaining about being blacklisted, so I managed to find it and disable.. Haven;t had any spammers as yet.... And everything else seems to be working well... :thumbright:

8% of automated spam is from the US.

There are about 6000 entries in the block logs. 17 of those were users attempting to post. I checked all of them, and there is only one IP that I wouldn't have been highly suspicious about - it looks like those users have been unlucky enough to get an IP that has been used for spamming some time in the past. It would probably be best to disable the blacklist on posting and leave it enabled on signup, as I have never seen a positive false on signup before.

have you guys considered adding the chat option to your forum. I was an admin on a bodybuilding forum a few years back that use phpbb and im pretty sure the addon was free (please don't quote me)

It might not be what your looking for but could get amusing after 8pm on a friday. :D

I just realized that it is working again so I must have hit the box and it stays logged in. This is a great forum.

The whole purpose of this forum.. is to chat....

And there's threads that can be devoted to "after 8pm on a friday"....

Although most people don't have a problem "chatting regardless of what the thread is about.... :mrgreen:
