I did check my gravel in vinegar, no reaction. I am on very hard well water, have a very hard time getting my swimming pool in check as well.

I use about 1 or 2 tsp in my 30 gallon tank every week or so. It turns the water brown which is ok.

Ahh, you have opened a second topic :D

Nice greenhouse, nice clean setup!

I read your topic and got some ideas and questions for concideration.

- Drying and yellowing leaves looks like similar what I had after using hidrocloric acid to lower the ph. It could be the toxic clorid.

- I have a GH based on the similar design, but my greenhouse had never had higher temp inside than outside, even after a week of 30C+ weather. How is your ventilation works? Do you have a ventillation window on a high spot?

I do have venting but but possibly not enough. 2 windows low in the front and two vents on the gables up high.

The key is the height difference and the sizes of the windows. I dont use vents at all. I have a door on one side and a window of aprox 1/2 m2 high up on the oposite side. If you have big enough windows on the top it should ventilate it self without electric vents...

Are you planning to put in thermal mass water barrels?

The vents are just openings are just openings. The top ones open and close auto via temp. Bottom ones are manual. Have a couple of ceiling fans blowing the air around.

Thinking about mass, i have block walls filled w gravel and about 3inches of gravel on the floor.

Please share an opinion of my issue. Plants are not doing well, they are thin and leaves are dying.

Don't know if it is Nutrients, PH or temps. Maybe just an immature system.
Temps are getting to 95-100f daily
Todays water readings
Temp 80
PH 8.2
Am - 0
Ni - 0
Na - 0

Fish seem to be rocking right along. That's 4 inch PVC in the tank for a reference.

Hey....

looking good......

with a PH of 8.2, your probably getting nutrient lockout..... so your plants are not doing very well... try and get your PH down to 7.6 and the plants should do better

I am not sure why its not dropping or how to help it down. I thought it might go down own its own by now.

It will drop over time. Im not a big fan of messing with PH as PH swing does more damage than good. Fishies look happy :thumbleft:

Your ph drop will be a lot slower with the limited nitrification you will be getting with the relatively small fish load you have at this point. It will happen over time though - unless you have limestone in the bed as somebody else suggested.

Perhaps for the moment you should just enjoy watching the fish grown and not worry as much about the plants while things establish. I'd also be inclined to plant some new plants rather than hope those old ones are going to recover.

If you choose to lower the ph, make sure you do it gradually. Work out your quantities by doing on a sample (say 10 litres) of water and measure not only immediately but 24 hours later, as I have had experiences where the ph drop has not shown fully immediately.
