Oh, for creating a vortex in your FT, you should put ur inflow pipe turned 45 degrees towards the center of of the tank and that shoud do the trick (water "bounces" then from the center of the tank wall towards the next center of the wall etc., creates a "flowing square")

My two cents :)

Pfff... I'm a visual tipe of guy, i need to see this on a drawing, but I'll buy 45 degree elbow and try it! By the way, you have a mail about the CEAJ!

Yes dear readers, finally we have a fish day! But I'll keep it as a secret until molj gives a sign that its ok for him as well! :fish:

---------------- o ----------------

I've had enough! :upset:

I read tonns of scientific material, dissertations, researches about wels catfish and other carnivorous fish, feeding, and how to teach tham to eat pellet.

On the phone I'm beeing told that pharmacy purity is needed to raise fingerlings, and it very hard, but than I read the phd dissertation of the same guy and see photoes of old used bathtubs in the garden for raising fingerlings, I feel that I might be fooled.

I'm a little fed up with scientific mistification of how hard it is to breed fish, and grow tham. Doubt is not a crime, to ask questions, and look after things are the same.

So I decided to try it! I will teach some fingerlings to eat pellet myself! More over I wont wait till next year, i'm gona do it now!

I quickly called the closest fishfarm. The one that I called 2 month ago, and asked for some catfish to experiment with. They are 20 minutes of drive from me.

They are netting out the last fingerlings of the year tomorrow, so I'll have 25-30 catfish - that are stupid at the moment as they dont konw that pellet is food - to put tham into a regular aquarium and teach tham that pellet is food.

- If I fail they'll all be dead in two weeks, and I'll be a serial killer.

- If I succed I'll wait 2-3 weeks and let the stupid ones join the ones that has been tought with "the special secret scientific method in special clean enviroment of the bathtubs in the backyard". If this happens I'll have way to much fish in the tank on the long run, but thats a problem for later, not for now!

So basicly I'm an arrogant asshole. :bootyshake: I dare to shit on whats written by clever people, jump the rules, and try to think out of the box. Basically Im doing this for a while now with the whole aquaponics and passive solar greenhouse thing. Some clever people found and find it interesting but most say it wont work.

Bad news you for tham... Its working. ;)

Wish me luck!

Here is my scientific scheme of what I was saying, the inflow angle must be EXACTLY 45°degrees, else your whole system will implode! :D

About our jamboree, so far i think i'm free on 29th so it's a GO GO.

About training fish for eating pellets. When i bought my first carps at an old guy who's been raising fish for 30 years or so, he told and showed me how he trains some of them. And it's as simple as you imagine it to be. He feeds the fingerlings with small or crushed pellets and about 1/3 or sometimes more of them die out of starvation, but the others get used to the pellets and get into The Meatrix :)

Another veteran who raises trout, very succesfully, emphasized the cleanliness of the whole fingerling raising process. From taking eggs and fertilizing them to the point of handling the fingerlings. The only "sterilizing" agent he uses is sea salt, everything else is just clean routine. You just go for it, common sense and some luck will do the trick.

Good day!

P.s.

sorry for revealing "the secret" :)

I've also heard a lot of stuff of how things "should" be done, specially in my school and university years, but the only truth there is is how things can be done, which often boils down to common sense :)

They are 30-1=29, I got one out as he had serious problems with swimming, he was floteing on the top. He had problems when I picked the fish up, you can see him in the middle of the pic, head is towards the surface. He was allive and made it home but after about an hour I took him out he was clearly not getting better :(

Anyway the rest is fine, they arrived in ph8, with Amm 0,25 in their water I will slowly top up their water with the aquaponics water. They are not used to the filter, kind of affraid of it but otherways they seem to be ok.

The fish farm is huge, they have 380 acres of water surface. Here is a pic of their fish labs.

I moved the fish to a bigger container (aprox 60 liters), this is gona be their home for few weeks.

As far as I can judge they feel fine, thrx swim fast, and try to geather in the shaded corners. I added some salt in their water, and they got some tubifex in little doses. They know and like tubifex, and im supprised how much they eat. Tomorrow I'll try moskito larve.

I wanna make tham get use to getting food from me on certain times of the day, should take aprox one week according to the literature. After that I'll start mixing pellet to their food.

So far we are good! :D

Do you still have space for the water for the passive water mass? Seems like that would help the temperatures when things start to get really hot and/or really cold
