I got 4 ibcs yesterday. Im going to use this one as a grow bed.

I had a look when i took out the tank the bottom was rusted and the bottom of the ibc seems to have a bit of rust too.

Has the rust "eaten" into the plastic or does it just need a good clean?

Also is the base still ok to use?? Im thinking of going to buy some rust proofing paint for it.

How do people actually drain the GB with the base as a stand?

I use penetrol on metal before painting, especially badly rusted metal.. Did a fair bit of research into treating rusted surfaces when it came to fixing up our sea containers and penetrol seemed to get rave reviews from old car restorers etc. Certainly didn't read a bad report anywhere, and you can get it at bunnings..

Hey EB thanks for that. Can i ask you also i have a bit of rust and im thinking of cutting off the base for the GB and just stacking it on top of the IBC cage (the bottom will be for the GB) do you think it will be able to hold up the GB fine?

Im tossing up either using the rest of the IBC cage as a stand or making my own stand.

Hi Eb,

I was originally going to cut a IBC at the bottom so its the stand + 2 notches up.

Then i was going to place this cut off section on top of the remaining IBC cage. I was wondering if the case will actually hold up the GB with media+water.

Most guys use the top of the cage for the GB and the base for the FT and i know that will hold but would it hold without the square base lol. I will try to get a pic tonight!

yep.... give directions on the can.. Oh and it's not in the paint section as such, or where the metal converters are, it's generally in the general paint section with all the mineral turps and thinners.
