Great info Fishhead, thanks....

How do they go over winter, did you have to heat at all... or do you just leave them and drop the feed off to every 3-4 days?

That's quite a lot of fish for that size tank, particularly when they are bigger. Is that the reason that you're redeveloping your system?

Any chance of some pictures of your existing system and plans for redevelopment? (Maybe start a thread of your own )

The temperature around here gets to about 8 degrees in the winter and though I have had it is high has 27 degrees in the summer I've never had to heat the water.I drop the feeding down to about every second day and maybe a quarter of what they normally have. If you do the maths the stocking density at the moment is around a hundred kilos, fifty kilos per cubic metre of water. I do not want to push it much more than this. I have a five thousand litre tank on standby. The reason I am redeveloping is because of the big storm and flood we had in Newcastle back in June my backyard got flooded, I lost as few pumps and had ten inches of water in my backyard for about six weeks and then mud for another six. It will be back to its full operation around about January it has taken me a while to fix up the yard with extra drainage. I will send you a picture when it is all fixed. I am not sure what a thread is so please enlighten me.

If you look to the top of the page Fishhead, you'll see that you have posted in the thread ...

"Backyard Aquaponics Forum Index » Aquaponic Discussions » Fish » Fish Species » Any one tried Australian Bass?"

To the left of the thread title you'll see two button options...

New Topic and Post Reply....

If you were to select "New Topic" you would be creating a new "thread" or topic in the existing"Fish > Fish Species" thread that we are currently in.

To start your own thread concerning your system...

Goto the top of this (or any) page and immediately to the right of the "Portal" option you'll find the "Forum" option....

This will take you to the main Forum "index" page where you'll see all the main thread titles listed....

Select "Members Systems" and then select "New Topic"....

Name it "Fishheads System" or something similar and enter your info, attach your pictures etc....

When finished "Submit Post" ..... done....

You'll now have your own thread in the Members Systems area....

A thread is a line of thought, discussion, or topic in computerlandspeak. The forum is essentially a venue for the collation and dissemanation of threads. Gurgle bubble spludge fehbicoc nme enowlcck

Too much jargon, my brain is melting....

Well, Dad's system (100 Bass in 1500L tank) had slow growth, then started losing a fish every 1-2 days until all were gone. Goldfish still doing well. Plants still doing badly. However this is NOT a representative example. I think there is probably a contaminant in the water. He agreed that we need to flush the water out and install hydroton, which we will do in good time.

Work okay if you don't want to eat this fish.

Old thread but eh, beats starting a new one.
I got 10 Bass fingerlings from John at Glenwaters 4.5 months ago. I netted out 6 and put them in the greenhouse system a couple of weeks ago, and just then trapped the last 4 and put them in the yabby aquarium inside. They have not grown a bit in that time
Will be interesting to see what they do in a heated aquarium

Are you human?: hmm, fishy question
Location: alstonville, nsw, aust.
I had 5 in a garden pond about 2M2 surface but 80cm deep, had lots of aquatic plants growing in and around, also about 10 goldies.
Never feed anything, water usually greenish and for 8 months of the year never saw a bass, but when it heated up that was my fun time, throwing grubs, cricket, grasshopper and watching them leap clear of the water to hit them as the bug touched the water. They love those white wood grubs with big heads and if a little skink fell in they would go crazy
Needless to say there were never any little goldies and I was there for 6 years and they hardly grew over 10 - 12cm, but they looked after themselves so must be tuff.
