is the solar system just for back ATM??
you'll need a lot more solar and battery to go off grid.
will be good to get experience though..

good luck!!

Hi all,

Haven't had a chance to do any more on the solar set up lately but thought I would post a quick update to show the growth my system has been achieving.

Looks good Arbe, I bet the trout are doing well!
Is that a rosemary hedge I see in front of the marigolds?

Yes it is Faye. We found them in the dirt garden out the front and thought we would give them a go.

Trout are going excellent. Really hitting their food and jumping out of the water. Think I might invest in some scales and weigh some soon.

Thanks for the comments Charlie. Wait till you see the spot I have lined up for my next system.

I just read your system thread.

You should get some kind of award for doing things properly the first time.

Excellent work!

Hi Arbe
I note on Charlie's thread that you are planning on a rammed earth house. I have a a passive solar house (double brick though). If you want any pointers for house design, I'm only too happy to help.

The success I have had so far is only due to this forum and all the great members.

Touch wood it continues.

PM me and I'll give you email or phone #. Seeing my passive solar should inspire you. After all, it takes the same amount of materials and labor to build a house, whether it's passive solar or not. So you might as well build it PS and save lots in heating / cooling / lighting. It's more comfortable as well!

Yes - the tomatoes were planted as seedlings about 7 - 8 weeks ago. Flowers starting to appear but no fruit yet (wrong time of year).

Haven't really harvested anything yet, but come summer I am sure it will change.

Sorry, isn't it the wrong time for tomatoes? Wouldn't they die in winter? Or am I missing something?

I don't know if it is the right time for tomatoes, but I've got tomato seedlings coming up (and lettuce) in the dirt garden. The seedlings think it's the right time, who am I to question them?
