Are you human?: Last time I looked

Hmmmm. . . . . home from sunny Telfer and I can't see the bottom of the tanks :upset: Missus must have over fed or I don't have enough growth happening yet. :support: I managed to see a few fish come to the surface with a torch and they have put on some fairly serious growth since I got them a month ago, the ones I saw looked about 30mm longer than stocking time. :thumbleft: I will net a few tomorrow and photograph, measure and weigh them. . . . and then I will make them fast for a week or so to clear up the water!.

Hi Ivansng, water is greenish and cloudy. . . . tanks are in full sun so that may not be helping either. Have to do some tests on it to see how things are as well.
Cheers

OK, just tested the tanks, pH 7.5-8, ammonia = 0ppm and nitrite 1-2ppm, obviously my system is yet to cycle completely. With nitrite levels so high and no ammonia, is it wise to stop feeding the hungry gutted trout 'til things balance out more?
Cheers
Andrew

I'd stop feeding, cover those tanks for a week, and salt to 1ppt (if you haven't already) - give the bacteria a chance to catch up to the load. Your cold nights will be slowing down their reproduction.

AJ your system is going thru the pea soup stage. Just temporarily black out your tanks with a tarp or similar. It will kill off the algae. And as what CD and Faye has said.

Caught a few of the fish in one of the tanks yesterday. . . obviously there are those that eat and those that miss out, at least I will be able to harvest them on a size limit rather than when the water gets too hot. :thumbleft:

Ha yeah Faye, it's waterproof, and the fish can tell the time, especially when I have a handful of pellets! Not bad photos from a mobile phone hey, surprised me how good they came out. . . .maybe I can sell the 5DmkII after all!
