Excellent question - How do we get away from toxins?

Short answer - we can't completely.

BUT- living at the top of the food chain, we can reduce our toxins, we can control more of what is going into the food chain when we have some control over our diet.

Some of the appeals that Aquaponics has for me are:
1- I have more control over my food supply - I won't be spraying fungicides, pesticides, herbicides, and other -cides onto my food.
2- I can have fresh veggies - I enjoy having fresh garden veggies, they are much tastier than after having a tour of the US and/or world.
3- I can get organic veggies and organic fish if I'm careful of what I feed them.

One of the things I would like to do is raise herbivorous or omnivorous fish and feed them insects and sprouts. I have quite a bit of grain and legumes in my emergency food storage, which is rotated by our consumption, but not as quickly as I would like. If I can convert stored grain into fresh veggies, (via fish) and fresh meat, I will have a better view of what is going into my body.

I have an autistic son, (one of the suspected causes of autism is mercury poison from vaccinations), and have had some success in reducing his symptoms by controlling his diet. I have a sister that was having lots of health problems until she started eating certified organic produce.
On the other hand, with my small family of eight, I can't afford the difference in price for certified organic. So I am having to see if I can strike a balance in what toxins I am taking in.

If I can reduce the toxins via aquaponics, that gives my health that much more of a margin in toxin tolerance to use on the other places that I am getting them from.

Sorry - a little long, but this is one of the reasons that I am interested in AP.

Oh, one other thing - Keeping lower on the food chain will also reduce the accumulated toxins. The more generations food goes through from seed to table, the greater potential for toxins to accumulate.
