Thought Id start my own thread for my system (well, my more successful second system anyway). Harvested some old parsley, capsicum and celery today and planted some new seedlings. Ive added some brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli and some herbs. 20 silvers and 20 trout.

This is my old decommissioned system from last year. I started out with 20 carp and it cycled well but unfortunately my poor location choice found little to no growth at all with the plants over a 6 month period. It had approx 2 hours direct light a day and it just wasnt enough. I scraped it and started again.

The little shelving from leftover tank frame is brilliant now i have a plan for all my leftover bits.

how much stuff have you got? like ft and gb in liters?

Thanks guys, the FT is a 1000L IBC cut down to hold around 850L and the GB is 400L.
My fish stocking is pushing the limits but I have a friend that runs a similar system that stocks 20 silvers, 20 trout and 10 carp and its been running like clockwork for 1.5 years. With heaps of aeration, water changes and regular culling will I be able to manage it? I hope I havnt been put on the wrong track

Charlie yes it can be done but any small mistake is going to be compounded by the fact you have no room to move.

If the power/air goes out with that amount of stocking its going to run out pretty quickly.

Agreed Zman. The MAX line is a thin line before HSM. And quite often you don't see or hear such HSM stories from people or mates, because not many would want to boast about their failures when they have openly bragged about how they lived on the edge. Or more correctly how they make their fishes live on the edge.

You have space there to the left and right charlie, why not expand and push up the capacity to get the production you want rather than push the fish to the limit?

Why not just add a few more GBs? That way your fish production can continue more safely and you will get more veges.

Just because something can be done, doesn't mean you should do it. As has already been mentioned, it comes down to animal welfare and providing an environment conducive to the well being of that animal. You can have battery hens too, but is it a good idea?

Everyone is free to do whatever they like, but as you've found there's not many people that will RECOMMEND these stocking levels.

I started with a system about that size and when I said I was going to get 25 trout for it , I got shot down in flames by one of the founding members on here. He suggest 5-7 fish
I ended up with 18 trout which I got through to small plate size but was fighting ammonia levels for the last couple of months

Thanks for comments guys, your making me feel like a cage farmer now , I never intended for it to be inhumane so I appologise it has come off that way. I just thought it could be done with the right management. I got my stock densities from a vid I watched a while back All pionts taken and as I have previously posted I will expand soon.

Any recommendations on what would be a good way to incorporate another FT/sump around the same size. Cheers
