Hi all, long time listener first time caller
Would firstly like to thank everyone who contributes, during planning and set-up I have spent alot of time trying to increase my knowledge through the experiences, failures, brain storming, solutions, and photos listed in the discussions on BYAP. Also a big shout out to Shane who has shared his experiences and knowledge almost daily at work.
I am located in Victoria, south-east of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula. I am only a few months into my first AP set-up, and have now been running for five weeks, system has almost cycled and hoping to get some fish in next weekend. Hoping to source some yearling Trout, been super cold and wet down here for the last fortnight arfternoon tank temps around 10-12C, dont think this has helped the cycling.
My system is constructed from two IBC units, they were used to create 2x 360ltr grow beds, and 1x1000ltr fish tank.

Water tests. PH - 7.4 / Ammonia - 0 / Nitrite - 5.0+ / Nitrate - 80+ / Temp 14c
My system has about 350ltrs from a mature AP system, so i think higher than normal nitrate levels.

Well that is simply spectacular, and will almost certainly make it in to the IBC amnual, with your permission of course. These systems just keep popping up out of nowhere!

I got my fish from Emerald trout farm, they had advanced trout also, give them a try.

you can still get trout at 2 - 4 inches and will grow out to plate size by December...

Rang the Macclesfield Trout Farm in Emerald today, was told that they have yearling trout around 6 inches for a couple of bucks each and have plenty of them. Will be a bit of a trip from home out to Emerald, 4 hour round trip. I hope that the trout will travel alright over the two hour trip home.

Water Test. Ph 7.6 / Ammonia 0 / Nitrate 80+ / Nitrate 5.0 / Temp 14c

Also hope that my Nitrite gets down, should I wait till Nitrite levels are at zero before introducing fish?

Yes absolutely must be 0. Rites are the nasty ones. Also salt to 1 ppt. Your system will be cycled when it converts atleast 1ppm ammo to 0ammo ad rates in 24 hr, then add fish and feed a little slowly increasing

Was sought of thinking that, but wasn't sure. I guess this is where you need to exercise some patience. Still remain hopeful for the weekend but no drop in Nitrite tonight.

Love the way you have done the woodwork Is that modwood on the fish tank?

Yes very nice looking system, love the look of these timber clad systems popping up, my only concern would be what sort of timber is being used and if it poses a threat of leaching anything bad in to the water.
