Just a quicky Mantis as I'm writing up a description of your system for the IBC manual, I see that you're almost finished, so thought I would add it in..

Are your beds going to be constantly flooded?

I will have them constant flooded while cycling and see how things go, but would like to put it on timed FD as the pump is 100W.

Looking good Mantis!

How deep are your beds?
I have tentative permission to extend our AP system. Wouldn't mind putting in a separate one so I can run trout in winter.
Like what you have done, please keep the photos coming. Might be able to use them to get a similar system past planning?

Certainly is looking good. Any more progress or updated pics of the whole system?

@Decal. Could you not split your tank with some netting and run trout on one side and silver perch on the other?

Mantis, if you replaced one of the top ells on your fishtank supply line with a T, that would prevent it from ever creating a siphon.

Or make a venturi going back into the tank, extra aeration and can;t ever start a siphon.

Yeah, I have a crude venturi in the other system that has the return like this. Its just a hole drilled in pipe with no reduction in pipe size
Got some more done on the system today with second bed it place and plumbed and a trailer load of 20mm scoria into the beds. Will get a trailer load of pebbles to top them off with tomorrow.
Just need to put in the SLO and growbed returns, glue the pipework and plug it in.
Should be cycling tomorrow I hope.

Got all the pipework glued and made an SLO with heaps of 6mm slots in the bottom. Fired up the pump and found out I had failed to check the bed made with the top of an ibc, for leaks around the screw on lid DOH. Now I will have to put the third bed in place and transfer all the gravel from leaky bed to it. :upset:
