It takes 2 years worth of eggs before it will cause them to die!

Trout are from Baxter and two different batches, finglerings no mouth open only the bigger ones. Feeding two different foods 4mm to the larger ones and 2mm purchased from the trout farm when I got the fingerlings. Have had no issues until now :(

Thinking that something has wasted in with the rain but have no idea what or where from.

Hey Richard. Long time no speak.
After my initial 200 silvers that i put in last year-wel ifound out what happened to them i think. That is they either got sucked up by the pump or they just couldnt handle the large tank, really cold water, Algea problems and who knows what else i may have done wrong.
Aside from all that i then (yes) bought a proper test kit and monitored the water for the last 6 months and i thought i had it all running perfectly, water quality, clarity ,aeration, frogs ,yabbies a dozen goldfish so i bit the bullet and bought 50 trout from 2 to 6 inches and some catfish fingerlings and all seemed okay for the first 6 hours or so. Checked them first thing next morning and they were all dead on the bottom of the tank.
Tested the water again and all still appears fine and the yabbies and goldfish are still fine so i feel a bit frustrated at this. Water temp is about 10 degrees- good for trout i would have thought.
Any ideas from you or anyone else.
I have aged tank water, I dont use any salt, maybe i need some?. I used that blue pvc glue on the main joins but there arn't that many joins. I do have straight Gal GBs and granite gravel and of course bronze gate valves.
So there are my issues along with a somewhat deflated APs doer.
Bernie

Galvanised tanks have often been linked to unexplain fish deaths Bernie!

One thing to look at is rat droppings getting into the grow beds.
Last year I had a problem with the rats eating my tomatos and leaving there calling cards in the grow beds. Every time we had rain it would wash the droppings and urine ect.. into the water and make the fish ill for a few days, and kill a few as well.
I later found out that my neighbour had put a heap of rat bait around his yard. So the rats eating my tomatos could have been poisoned.

+1 Faye - think those GBs and maybe that tankwater present a problem.

Yep, with the time frame of the deaths I would be pretty sure that zinc from your growbeds caused the deaths. Trout are very susceptible to zinc where as goldfish and crustaceans seem to cope with the levels that are found in Gal tanks.

Yeah i thought you guys would say that about the GAL growbeds. I think i shall remove gravel and line the GB's with a liner. Eliminate the obvious!
I dont use any Rat or Mouse baits/poison around my place but the rodents are sure prolific and eat anything thats almost ripe and yes they do poo a lot. I also have millions of those portugese milipedes that have fallen into the pond and i think just end up rotting on the bottom. I'm sure they wouldnt help either.
Tankwater?? Why should it be a problem? It is collected off a GAL roof though! What about Dam water? A bit murky but it would clear up after a while i guess.
