:support: Richo...

Brett: Not sure if water changes etc are enough to kill off what ever it is that the other fish bought in.

im having same issues with fish from the same supplier and im now at the point where im going to take 500L of media too the tip cos who knows what it is thats in there...

the media would harbour the parasites etc.... Although for the fish to be carking it so soon it must be something nasty doing it....

All trout dead this morning. Mouths wide open
How sensitive are trout to zinc, as it came to me that I have been topping the system up by tipping water into the blue barrel growbed that has a wire accross the middle holding it in shape. Would the water splashing over this wire be enough to kill them???????

Not good.

Are there any "trout only" deseases?

Do you have a sacrificial SP/Catfish/Jade you can put into the system?

The catifsh I bought from that dodgey supplier are all gone. Trout and SP are fine.

:support: :support: man that sucks. maybe if you go pee ponics for a while whatever it is will die, and then you can start up again . . if they are all dead why not do a 100% water change? and let the media dry out for a day or so

Funny you say about the mouths wide open, that has been a constant with my fish deaths also.

Is that a common dead fish thing? Or some clue to what is going on?

Damm :support: :support:

Yeah I'm pretty sure zinc will not do your fish any favors,
pretty sure that zinc will be sacrificial, instead of the metal rusting, that means that the zinc will be in the water. whether just 1 piece of wire would be enough??? unless it is mesh??
hope you get to the problem before you next batch..

Regards
Matt

Could one anaerobic bed be the problem????????
I drained the system tonight and 4 of the beds drained in seconds when I took out the standpipes but one sat on a solid trickle for 25mins. Definetely gonna remove the media from this one to see whats going on.
Also removed the wire which was actually down in the media

What do you folks reckon, should I flood the beds with highly salted water ??

Something was sucking the O2 out and I reckon I might find a putrid mess in this bed. Will report tomorrow

Well the bed wasnt the issue I cleaned it out and it was fine. I tried to post the below in fish problems but new posts are not working

As some of you may know I lost two lots of trout in my greenhouse system and the fish that are in there now after draining and flushing the system although not dying dont look happy, and are not eating.
All water readings have been good through all this, and I am now wondering if having a growbed return splashing off rhubarb leaves would disolve any oxalic acid into the system. It was doing this for a full day before I noticed the water levels dropping, and also dead rhubarb leaves have been laying on the bed
I am probably way off the mark here but am trying to figure out what the frack is wrong with this system. :upset: Water parameters, ph , temp and DO are all good

Thoughts??
