Sorry to here about your loss Mantis. Did you end up testing the water before dumping it?

Water tested 0 ammonia. I had 15 plate size jade perch living in it and eating 80g of food a day, so 20 trout fingerlings shouldnt have been a worry eh.
I changed the water for other reasons that may or may not play a part

Got 26 new babies from Ballarat on Sat morning and all was well with them eating furiously until tonight. One swimming upsidedown, others gulping at the surface and circling the tank at the surface.
Amm 0
Nitrite 0
Ph 7.4

I had a 25L/min air pump running two stones and 3 autosiphon beds dumping into the tank, but in case it was lack of air I put a 50L/min pump with one stone in there and the water is boiling now
Also took 3 buckets of poopy water from the sump outlet on the fish tank and topped up with rain water.
Will see what tommorow holds
Hoping it is just air and not something brought in with the last lot of dodgey trout :upset:

Yes its salted to 2ppt and its the same way I have run the system for the trout last year, and the jade perch over summer. The pump pulls some of the poop into the growbeds but some goes into the sump outlet and I pull off a bucket or two each evening and top up
Dunno if three hours in a bag for 26 trout would stress them :dontknow:

I think the 25L/min air pump has lost a lot of grunt as its been running for 12 months. I seem to remember it churned the water much more last year with the trout.
Will change the diaphragm and foam filter in it tomorrow
But the 50L is pumping a heap into it now

3 auto siphons dumping into tank at low ft temp should be enough shouldn't it??
I have 25 trout and around 30 silvers in 1 ft with 3 siphons that dump around twice an hour,
I've left my air out for a few days and still havn't had any issues :dontknow:

Hope all goes well

Matt

yeah its getting curious. Havent lost a fish in this system for 12 months. One harvest of trout, and one of Jade perch, and no losses since the first week when I drained the system (plumbing)
Now 20 dead trout from dodgey fish dealer and now this
Might become a peeponics system this one :upset:

Just catching up on what's been happening. :support:

Any chance it could be the food?

It looks as if it might be the only constant since you drain and cleaned
the system between fish.

Just a thought?
