Look at the levels required of the complete system, (assuming CHIFT PIST) that IBC halved to make 2 GBs on stands. Then just halve the other IBC to make sump, sit on ground level and interconnect them. Not only make it easier but cut down on the pump head pressure by 1/2 metre.

Which is exactly what I'm about to do, hopefully this afternoon I'll be making the first cuts. Mine will be 4 x interconnected sumps (IBC Halves).

Quick question DJH.........Why are you needing a 2000 litre sump, 500 would do in most cases. :dontknow:

Half ibc interconnected sumps 500mm high at least, and growbeds above these so that they drain into sumps, then I would have to raise the full ibc fish tank so that the slo would drain into the growbeds.
So it was either sink the sump or raise the fish tank
Anyhooo its done now,, and I got some much needed exercise :)

Simple the more water you have the more stable and easier to manage it becomes
[Quote 500 would do in most cases] but its cutting it to fine
I think most are learning that a larger body of water stocked lightley is the way to go

I have always just assumed that at some stage all 2000L's of growbeds (it wouldn't be 2000L of water of course) siphoned at the same time I could potentially have some issues. I just tried to match it up as best I could and it also allows for some expansion flexibility.

To be fair though if I was to expand to more growbeds I would probably just start splitting IBC's again. It's far too convenient having a cage that locks together snugly, and offers 500L of growbed and 500L of sump/fishtank directly underneath.

Blah! I've already been plotting my expansion and I haven't even cut open an IBC for my main system yet!

Starting to put it together. Hooked up the Laguna 9000 pump with 40mm pipe for a test and it sure pumps some water. :D
Rain has stopped play

Decided I only have room for 3 beds so I will go with timed flood and drain. What size standpipes should I use 25/32/40 and how many holes in them for the drain.
I did neaten up the pipe work to the fish tank and even with 4 90 degree bends it still pumps a heap of water.
Hope to start it running with 2 beds on the weekend

Killed to batches so far so not keen on getting any more this year. Will try goldfish in the greenhouse system after a while on peeponics, and goldfish in this one to cycle it.

Was going to get stuck into this system today but rain has stopped play. Got a bit done yesterday though.

Set up the plumbing to the fish tank the way I want it and tested it. 12min to fill the fish tank
