I've never seen a fish that looks pissed off to be released. I'm sure they are just thinking "I can't believe I got away with that again"

Yeah, can just see them hanging around a submerged log bragging to their mates about the size of the one they "got away from"

Before netting my perch the other day I seriously considered filing the barb off some hooks and using the alvey.

Put a 4mm barra pellet on a hook and you'll be sure to do well AM.

LOL - true! These fish of mine are modern animals, they only eat it if it has been processed and is dead!

The only thing that stopped me from going the hook was that I was scared they might swallow it whole. Filing the barb off would not help in that situation. I guess it may be a matter of choosing the right size hook and also just experimenting to see if they deep throat the hook or just go shallow.

Generally if you cant get a hook out of a fish, leave it and it will rust out.
This happens qwik in ocean but in freshwater who knows.

This is getting wrong guys...

On a more serious note... my Uncle discovered that certain species, black bream in particular can actually dislodge and spit out hooks. Evidence of this was found when hooks were found in the tanks of bream caught from the wild...

THis is not good if they can do it quickly :( . I am going on a 2 day get away /fishing trip before school comes back to Koombaloomba dam, and they only have black bream stocked...
Guess I had better not file off the barbs, and should take along loads of beer to console myself should I not catch anything ;)

Hi Big Mick, Thanks for the actual measurement. It's tough when folks use those ubiquitous items which aren't so ubiquitous on a global scale. Our quarter is smaller, only about 23.5 mm, so my fish will look all the more impressive when I photograph them.
