I trolled through a few post this morning and BT (Blue Thumb) says he has SP and trout coexisting. As My SP were in a lot longer first. And trout put in after, I am hoping they may be Ok.
They all seem to be getting along fine at the moment. No chasing about the tank or unusual behavior as I can see it.
Fingers crossed.

Seems to occur as the trout grow bigger... partly a feed competition thing.. and perhaps a territorial response... either that... or they just enjoy chasing the poor perch...

Snuck up om FT when I got home and all happy in tank. If anything the Koi were chasing the trout.
Fed properly for the first time this afternoon.
Trout are cool feeders, jumping fully out of the water.
All goldfish still have full tails.
:D

Got home to find one of my trout dead and floating.
No goldfish inside.
All water readings good.
Water temp 19 deg.
Ph over 7.6 so removed oyster shells I had put in as a buffer.
Good thing I got an extra trout.
Any theories :dontknow:

Yep, its definately dead.
Cheers F&F. :wave1:
I can relate to your cow theory a little.
A long time ago when I was working on a large sheep and wheat farm the farmer and I drove past a dead sheep, I aked why it died and his answer was that sometimes sheep just die. I have never forgoten the dead pan answer.

I have set up a sprinkler off my original little pump in my FT. The reason was to cool water off for trout, which worked well. Since then or now all of my plants in floating baskets have died off. They get constantly wet as they drift around under the sprinkler. The plants were Lebanese water cress, Lemon mint and um I think it is some sort of arthritis plant with round leaves.
Do they not like having their leaves wet all the time. I was thinking of trying again and tethering the floating pots so that they dont get wet by the sprinkler, is this a good idea, :dontknow:
I guess with the weather cooloing down I sould be able to pull out sprinkler.
The trout are going well as are the rest of the goldfish, SP and Koi.
The trout are big feeders and seem to eat most of the food I put in. They smash it as it hits the surface. Would buying sinking pellets be good for the other fish to eat. If so does BYAP sell sinking pellets.
I saw the BYAP stand at garden week. Had a bit of a look, was going to say Hi to Faye but she had some bloke baled up so I moved on. Looked a good display. Good to see BYAP there.

From memory, I believe Faye said that BYAP do not sell sinking pellets.

Anyways, I would recommend not using sinking pellets if you have a tank with trouts in there... Uneaten food at the bottom of the tank will affect the trout...

thanks all, I guess I will just keep feeding the floating pellets and the rest of the fish will get what they can get.
I cat believe how much the trout eat  I have about 25 SP 6 Koi and a couple of goldies and only 6 trout. Since putting the trout in I have almost doubled feeding rate.
What normally took about 10min for fish to eat now goes in about 2 min.
Before I posted about my water plants dying off, any theorys on that one :dontknow:
Anyhoo, I hope you all have a safe and happy weekend. :flower:

Well firstly watch your ammonia levels...

Secondly, I think there is good reason why it is not recommended to mix other fishes with trout, because only trout would eat and grow while the other fishes eat the remainder if any and survive.
