Thanks Rupe - yep, have got some of their stuff already.

Probably gunna look into producing triploids, growth enhancement, and increasing growth homogeneity through non-GE manipulation techniques.

Can't figure WA Fisheries... the wont have a bar of Murray Cod... aren't keen on Barra, Tilapia.... etc...

But recently seem to be approving Redfin... go figure...

There are people over here farming Murray Cod, but under tight restrictions to only sell to the restaurant trade. Same with the redfin.

Yeah, they're pretty tight and it's very restrictictive as there's no endemic species to work with, and then they keep throwing trout into the waterways

And then their website has conflicting pages about how all the rules are supposed to be implemented.

Busy times !

Troutman said my new trout and SPs are coming Wednesday

So had to start making room and eat the first SPs from the system - it's been a long 13 month wait ! :wav:

Harvested 12 fish - gave 2 to a mate and cleaned the other 10 up for us - 5 in the freezer and five on the BBQ :eat:

I'll put the sizes/weights up a little later. Largest was 34cm/600g !

Attachments:
File comment: 10 SPs sitting in a little saltwater for a while before cooking. The big one is is the 600g fish.

I got a range of sizes from TM when I bought 'em. Guess the big ones, the top 10, would have been around 100-120g !

Yeah, I went searching back throught your thread and TM actually commented that you would have havestable fish within 12 months. My SP are going throught their second winter and at a guess would only wiegh 50g! There's the benifits of buying larger stock!

Mmm, tough call. I'd put them on a par with each other.

If you really forced it, I'd pick the redfin, but wished I'd had a redfin the same size as the SP to really compare.

Yeah, true.

I'm certainly going to be waiting a while for the small ones to reach edible size.

Unfortunately lost 20 of my mid-range ones when that storm hit the hills a few weeks back.

 100 trout and 50 SPs delivered this morning by Troutman

Thanks Gav - they're all healthy, all happy - already enjoying feeding the trout !

While I'll stand by SPs as a better aquaculture/aquaponics species till the day I die, the trout do give you more fun :D
