hmmm, I didn't have to buy my house, I just had to have a parent die for it :(

I would hate to have to go through buying a house though. I've gone through building 2 with my parents and that was awful. I NEVER want to do that again either.

Well with the $10k
I plan to buy another 4 rain water tanks, only one to feed the AP.
Another shed to setup and match the HP shed 1 I already have, for grow beds, a mate has donated all his old Hdryo gear (he has given up on it)

1 Wind generator and required accesories for raps minus batteries (just got conformation :)) now only need neighbor and council approval to set it up.

and Maybe a tank for the fish although I have been thinking of digging a hole and lining it as the growbeds will be in sheds and I want them as low as possible so things got plenty of room to grow.

Plus I want to put in a couple of conventional raised beds vegi plots.

and I want to do my bit for the enviroment and scrounge as much as I can.

Cheers
Ron

Opps and forgot as this seems to have hijacked the orignal thread.

I think you will find differences in the education system
Here in OZ you have 3 basic levels
Primary age 5 to 12 yo
High School 13 to 18 yo
Higher education ie: Universities, colledges ect for the 18+

Hi RP:
The education levels sound the same as the U.S.

last hi-jack, ron get all chummy with theneighbours, lots fo drinking on your money and friendly behaviour, then a few months later hit them with the wind genny. People are funny like that. A new kid on the block can have the best idea but be shot down. Propose the same idea when you're all mates and its a winner ;)

Good Luck- I was able to read between the lines with the C.H. next door, and new what was comming-- and yes I voiced my non approving opinion from the begining- though this was not a wind gennie, which I would have supported had it been the case.
I hate it when ppl don't give a *potty mouth* about the land they walk on!!
off soap box sorry for hijack too!

Two more major differences between Oz and Uncle Sam ---

Australian cars CAN be driven with a flat tyre or two - I've done it.
Australian cars don't always explode if they fall off a cliff - I've seen it.

--- and a major similarity that has affected me recently --

I live in Owen, SA, postcode 5460 ---a christmas card from my cousin in Boston went to Owen, Wisconsin, zip-code 54460 before it got to me. I have the post-marked envelope to prove it, and I wouldn't mind betting that is why last year's christmas card took 3 weeks to get here too !

TimC: I understand where you're coming from re: education & all the different schools & types of schools. But nonetheless, the education system (pre-tertiary) here doesn't equate to many OS. A lot of (what do you get when you graduate these days?) results/diplomas for 12 aren't accepted at many good uni's OS, unless they're really outstanding. I don't know if this has changed since I was younger, but that was definitely the case up til I finished uni here.

Mike, I think that Australia's gradually going down the pooper too. We're becoming more American & litigious every single day. (People may not think it's a big deal, but maybe that's also something to do with the laid back attitude Aussie's have? ) I'm really hoping that people give more than just a hoot when they're voting at the next election. We need something different, considerate, helpful... something new.

On the post issues!!! Yikes! I've had stuff sent from the US & not addressed appropriately (yes, you need to put the country, state & postcode on it, doesn't matter where you're from) & had things go to Palmerstone, NT instead of Palmerston, ACT (when I used to live in that suburb). Go figure!!! HAHAHHAAH!

In the ACT (& other states I think?) ambulance gap isn't paid for through elec. I wish they did set something up though! it's a pretty basic thing, ambulance cover...

I thought of something else that different in Australia. Sweets/candy are called 'lollies' over here. I had no idea what people were talking about when I first came here as a kid. It was very confusing.
