We didn't take any action, just left the borers to do their thing, didn't end up with too many problems.

I think a few people try and force their fish along, I don't reckon there's anything wrong with keeping a slow feeding rate.

Well I took to the eggplants today and broke off all infected areas of the borer grub. I took great pleasure in feeding the grubs to the fish.
I also pulled out all plants that have not been doing any good. Pulled up last of original roma tomatoe plants.
Planted Silverbeet, Brocolini, and mixed Lettuce.
After planting I blocked off standpipes and fully flooded GBs. Once I got about 100mm water over whole GB I gave the gravel a bit of a wash and scooped up heaps of dust and crap from the water, thus cleaning the GB surface.
Picked off all dead leaves and then sprayed for Powdery Mildew.
Put a dollop of Seasol in for seedlings and will run constant flow for the night to keep nutrients up to new seedlings then switch back to flood and drain in the morning.
System looks nice and clean now and so hopefully with my now lower PH and Perths not so hot days now I will have some success with the new batch of seedlings.
Happy days all and have a great week. :flower:

I'm guessing perhaps it was more a long term problem rather than just the power loss by the look of him..

I've found some goldies are just really soft.... :dontknow:

If you look really hard you can see that (well I think) most of his tail is still there. It has just lost the colour out of it and is now transparent.( except for the bit that is black).
Hi Freo Boy :wave1:
On to other news, and I got some trout :D
Got em from Golden Ponds $5 each, Various sizes, pot luck out of very big tank.
When getting them out of the hatchery, before going inside the guy goes, "dont look at the tank on the left as we go in", Im thinking to myself, what the frack, must be some hell dodgy stuff going on in the tank, :? I mean what could be so bad as to tell someone not to look at the tank, what IS this place.
So I just kind of glance at it, not seeing anything to horrific. :? Follow guy into next room, back out with bucket and net. He gets water from other tank, Then grabs handfull of pellets and throws them in the tank I am not to look at and the surface of the water explodes with trout, at the same time he dashes in and scoops up 7 trout.
Now I know why he didnt want me to look at tank. :geek:
He goes, If I try again now it wont work as they will be scared. I said Cheers mate now I know how to catch fish out of my tank.
Anyway, was kind of funny.
Now to all you people who I kind of poo pood for not having a Venturi Airator on their system I have a large piece of humble pie to eat, here we go, gobble gobble  .Yes even I have 1 good reason why I dont have a Venturi Airator in my system
As I have some Trout now in an effort to lower my water temp, I have
1. now on continuous flow
2 replced Venturi Airator with shower thingy to expose water to air and cool it down and
3 put in old little pump and set up as water fountain to cool and airate as well.
The results from 1 night doing this dropped my water temp by 5 deg! It was a bit of a chilly night(for Perth)
Any how Fingers crossed it goes ok.
Water temp yesterday arvo was 20 deg, hoping it will stay below that, I plan to keep the area around the system wet , or at least wet it down in the mornings before I go to work.

Got 7. Range from about 100 to 200mm, They were all healthy looking, quite solid.
I was wondering if they are all the same type as some have a definate rainbow colouring and others more just with brown spots. :dontknow:
Just read on jameys mystery SP deaths about EBs warning of Trout stressing out silvers.
I hope they dont stress mine out as I have SP as well. And Koi and goldfish and a lone yellow tail grunter from the Swan river I caught one day.

Some of my silvers are pretty large as are the Koi, I dont really mind if they take the goldfish. I guess I will just have to keep an eye on things as they get a bit bigger.

Well better look out for floating or sinking goldfish then... also I believe trout would try to swallow smaller fishes even if they are too big, so you might lose both the smaller fish as well as the trout that tried to swallow it.

IMO, trout and barra should never be mixed with other fishes... not unless you are feeding the other fishes to the trout and barra...

As Swiper the fox would say, Oh maaan.
I saw somewhere on the forum someone had Trout Koi and SP in the same tank.
So I kinda thought it had been done before.
Its going to be a hell of a job getting them out.
Bugger.

Skip, as EB says... I've seen Silvers harrassed to the point of exhaustion by trout...

But having said that... when I drained the tank down... well actually when a storm emptied it for me... there were still some Silvers in there that had grown quite well...
