This system has a fish tank that for memory is about 4000L and the growbed is about 300L i think.. works a treat, and probably about 8 years old now...

Yep, I've got 6000L of FT to 2000L of GB and has been working well for over a year now.

Yeah, unfortunately some things get said early on and then carry through echoing on forever.... And strangely enough some of the people who insist that a system has to be 1:1 sell systems that are miles different to that..

Mate, you're going to have a much harder time selling the phrase, "you adjust your stocking levels to the capacity of your biofilter" - requires too much thought

Our standard line here is "get the biggest tank you can fit and/or afford, then at least one growbed, later you can add more if you like, increasing your fish levels as you go."

Sorry about getting off track Nickolia.. Oh well... :dontknow:

I'd suggest searching for chop 2 on this forum before you jump in and start cutting things for that style of system. :)

I agree, Chop 1 or CHIFT PIST would be better to move solids into GB vs into the ST then into GB. Unless I'm mistaken though I'm not sure if I can do that setup without using a different container for my ST, or raise my FT a few feet off the ground.

If I could figure out the exact amount of water used in my GBs with gravel (can't find expanded clay her yet) + 20 gallons or so extra for pumping to the FT I might be able to do it with the equipment I have without raising or needing a new ST

Food& Fish - how do you add fish and do plumbing in a tank that you haven't cut?
