Brian, what that root from cucumbers?

I had the same thing happen twice and it was both from cucumbers. A single root grew down the drain that then exploded into a HUGE mass.

Oh... I think it was a somewhat sad very old swiss chard.... Just one tiny root supports such a huge mass. Says something for the efficiency with which a root can transfer nutrients?!

Ok.... so heres the thing. Temps have dropped down to between 15 and 20 degrees so it time for the trout! So now I want to figure out stocking densities :dontknow: went on some of the numerous stocking densities threads to try to figure this out and i was like  then I was  then again :? . Some people said :naughty: and others :thumbleft: and now i am a bit :dontknow: and :( .

I have 4000 liters of gravel growbed, with a 4000 liter FT and soon to have a 200 liter bio filter with 75 percent cut up black pipe and 25% scrubbies. I have a 4000 liter sump so 8000 liters of water in the system. How much would you all stock. I am thinking 300 fish grown out to 500 grams give or take 20 kgs. Does that sound reasonable or am I being dumb. Last season I did 6 kgs of +-200gram big fingerlings which probably topped out at an average of 1kg a fish, about 30 fish in total so call it 30kg's. To be honest it was hard to even see them in the tank. I want to have lots of trout but don't want to end up with a whole bunch of dead trout :dontknow:

3kg grown out fish to 100litre filtration.

4000 / 100 = 40
40 x 3 = 120
120 x 500gram = 240 fingerlings

I'd go 200. Allows room for playing with catfish.

Picked up a new pump for the greenhouse system today. Rated at 1500 liters per hour at a 2 meter head. Should do the trick! Just need to fill the other two growbeds and get some plants going. Am in a bit of a dilemma now as I have the mozzie fish in the tank now and would like to put some Tilapia in there instead. I fear the tilapia will gobble up all the mozzie fish in no time as I am told they chow their own babies. I could dump the mozzie fish in the sump I guess.

Some more pics of the produce and the windbreak. That reed stuff is amazing. I am going to go right around the system with it. I just supplied a pipe with a dripper at each piece of cane planted and away it goes. From a few stalks to a 12 foot high windbreak in 4 months! That last pic is my idea for a cheap flood control for the growbeds. just a end cap on the pipe and drilled and then it can be half mooned for the desired flood speed.

File comment: The wind break phenomenal growth. I have no idea what the reed stuff is but it grows like mad.

Hey brando. Thanks and yes funny you should say that. I have been inspired by this

http://calearth.org/galleries/index.html

and am itching to try something like this combined with an ap system into a sustainable food producing house. Perhaps with attached dome greenhouse
