being able to monitor the feed eaten with a web cam is something I want to add to my systems too.

There are no perfect automatic fish feeders out there that I know of. The ones I use are pretty darn good but too much plastic that can be chewed by rodents and they are not weather proof or bug proof. And of course the automatic feeder can't really monitor water quality or feeding behavior of the fish. (I killed a whole tank full of fish while out of town not too long ago cause the feeder kept feeding even when it got too cold for the fish to eat, sigh.)

That too bad about the fish. Mine is hooked into the rest of the controller system so it feeds the fish based on the water temp. I was actually surprised how effective it was once I determined how much they could eat based on the temps.

Right now they don't eat since the water is 38F

Hey Guys,

If you need a micro controller, that's wireless, you can have a look at JeeLabs (http://jeelabs.org/. They are Arduino compatible and have a bunch of "Plugs" that can be added. There are sensor plugs (so you can do you temps etc) and motor control plugs, which would be perfoect for this.

could be useful for the remote monitoring and feeding of your tanks.

Hi there

Check out the link to my earlier post
http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9207

I bought this via eBay and so far it's great. Cheap at $50 and seems reliable and has a large feed tank.

just watch your feeders now, as temps drop fish will go off feed (unless they are trout) and if your auto-feeding the poo will hit the fan at a rapid rate . .

Reason I ask... is a lot of the "pet" feeders... assume a cat/dog sized feed... and small 2mm pellets just drop straight through...

And a lot of the smaller "fish" feeders I've looked at... either struggle like hell against a 4mm+ pellet.... or suck the batteries dry pronto...

I am using 2-3mm pellets with no hassels at all. It will do up to 4 feeds a day.
