Your yabbies alone will push your ammonia level up until you're cycled... with the fish as well... you're just under-filtered...

Yeah i have been looking into it, unfortunately wont be able to get to it for a week or 2. Do you think i can get away with removing some of the yabbies and just changing water when required for them (how much ammonia can they tolerate?).

I just dont have any way to add GB at the moment. Are you still doing your trout run? If so can you fit 4 IBCs in there? :shifty:

Also is there a filter brand you would recommend? I might buy one to tied me over till i get new GB online.

It takes abt 2 mths to fully cycle a system. Your system appears to be only one month old. So be patient, ammonia and nitrite will take time to drop. Stop trying to do too much too soon.

Stop feeding totally. Even without feed ammonia is still being produced, so ammonia will not drop until the bacteria has a chance to grow.

It will take a long time for them to actually starve to death....fish are opportunist feeders anyway so in their natural conditions it could be along time between meals.

LOL found a small yabbie that has had half of their tail eaten.

The 2 back legs were missing and found no other issues. Could it be a female that was berry and they ate her eggs/tail?

Yes i did.

I did what Rupert told me. Put the siphon loop lower as the water going in will have to go beyond that level for the siphon to kick in.

I also lowered the end of the siphon pipe to about 30cm below the level of the bottom of the GB.

If everything else doesnt work mate just create a new siphon that is not connected to your return pipe then test it and when that works then you can work backwoods.

Why was there a sudden drop in ammonia? Yesterday i added 10% water due to water loss. I actually fed the silvers a bit to show off the system to my mum lol so i would have expected ammonia to go up?
