Those lettuce plants look fine. Some of the first leaves will go like that from being wet etc. Dont think I have had a lettuce that hasnt looked like that soon after planting

If what gets splashed by water? storm water pipe?

Also is it better to put it under the whole metal frame of the GB or in between the frame and the GB?

I would measure from where the bed is sagging to the bottom of the tank below, add a bit for the amount of sagging, cut some 90mm storm water pipe and wedge it under there.

Are you human?: What time is it?

Hubby says... it might pay to dig up a lettuce and look at the root system to see whether its root rot, if they arent white (ie: brown or black) that might be what it is.

If they look healthy... what Mantis said :)

BTW agree with EB... you might have some probs if you dont put supports under. (When we were doing our IBCs, Hubby (80kg) jumped on those top bars to straighten all the ones bent in by the suction from them being drained and the top not being cracked open... could bend them out pretty easy just by standing on them  so they cant take a lot of weight)

A couple of untreated redgum sleepers slid under the whole thing would do it. Drain all your water out of the GB and leave for a few hours to make it lighter. (Lucky your using Hydroton)

Hope that helps

*goes back and rereads post to make sure I didn't type pine instead of pipe* Definately pipe. Lukily I got it right or it would have been

You cant beat the BYAP Growbeds. They give your system a neat and professional look.

If you are still having difficulty with filling the tubes try holding the tube close to the bottom and gently "flicking" your finger against the top. Hope that helps!

I check 1 lettuce that was pretty much dead and the roots had water log. Other plants have white roots but just in case i lowered the stand pipe by 10mm or so. We will see if thats a little better.

arbe

heheh yes i read pipe then read pine then see pipe ^_^

ralath

Thanks, i tried that but still a little bit over all the time. I dont think im timing it right. Ithink i will stick with the syringe as it is very accurate.

Should i do another water change?

Ammonia - 2
Nitrite - 2-5
Nitrate - 0-5
Ph - 7.4

Should i do another water change as the ammonia isnt going down and i feel bad that i havent fed the fish or yabbies for 5 days.

I chucked a little feed in today, the silvers practically jumped out the tank to get the feed.

And if you do keep feeding them, they will be jumping out of the tank for other reasons.

Water change and constant flow would be your best bet to bring the AMM and Rites down. At those levels, it would be toxic to the fish.

Don't feed the fish. Put the system on constant flood. It will start cycling Sion :)

vlt

The Ammonia has been at 2 for about 5 days on constant flood and no feeding. I will do a 50% change tonight.

I only fed them a tiny bit to have a look at their reaction. I think my system is starting to cycle thus the spike in nitrite?

freoboy

Yeah :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Make sure that you have as much aeration as possible Hui....

How much grow bed filtration do you currently have, and how many fish???...

You may find that your ammonia levels will rise to that level anyway... even if you're not feeding your fish....

Changing water all the time will slow the cycling process...

What is your tank temperature??

Hi Rupert,

I have 24 7cm silvers, 18 yabbies in 600L, i have a 350L GB until it cycles. I run 4 air stones 24/7 an tank temp is usually 20+

You're always going to have an ammonia problem... you need to add another grow bed immediately...

Your yabbies alone will push your ammonia level up until you're cycled... with the fish as well... you're just under-filtered...
