Hi fellow members,

I have a 10,000 lt concret plunge pool which i am converting to a pond.

I was wandering if i could get koi AND silver perch fingerlings. Plan is in 18 months time slowly cull the perch for eating.

If this is ok, what do i feed them. Can perch eat koi food and vice versa.

Also i was thinking about 70 perch fingerlings and 30 koi babys.. is that ok?

Thanks in advance

No problems combining them... but Koi feed isn't high enough in protein for the Silver Perch...

Conversely... the Koi will happily grow & thrive on Silver Perch feed...

I know Silverperch and Koi will be fine together, the silvers will leave the koi alone and vice versa.

as for feeding, im sure Koi will eat the same feed as the silvers being a Pellet style commercial Aquaculture feed i know ridley make a 1mm and 2mm pellet for feeding smaller fish. semi floating 45% Protein good for growth.

10kl is a rather large pond, with water turnover you are going to need a lot of Growbed and a large pump to keep water quality up if you want to feed rigorously.

i would expect 5kl of growbed as a minimum?????

I would actually be concerned about feeding koi feed to silver perch that you are going to eat. Lots of koi feeds these days have artificial colour enhancing crap in them... not sure I would want to eat such chemicals via the silver perch meat.

I've got 3 Koi in my tank. Quite happy on the native feed going a hell of lot faster than the silvers however.

Easy fix IMHO, stock to your GB capacity and no more.
