Yep earthbound , the stuff grows likes weeds ..... well it is an eatable weed in most of SE Asian. Also needs almost zero oxygen in the water , put some in a glass , just top=up for evaperation.
Maybe an excellent plant for systems that remove solids into a seperate container for processing.

Had heard of it but never really knew what it was!

Never seen it for sale in the supermarkets here... definitely looks like another plant to add to the list :)

netab32 ,, I'd be happy to send some seeds or cuttings , but truly it's a VERY common plant for the last 20 odd years ,, check any local Asian market ,, the leaves look almost exactly the shape of the leaf of a gum tree

No worries... thanks for the offer of seeds Chappo - very kind,

I live in a fairly rural area which only has one asian grocery store that I know of, so will have to check it out next time I go into town... Looks like its worth having!

it's good stuff. tastes like a non bitter spinach and grows easily. fry up the thick stems like a veggie.
doesn't seem to like harsh sun

Our kang kong is growing in full sun in Perth (the easterly wind is hitting it too!).

it might just be my micro climate then - my system is against a wall beside a tin shed and gets afternoon sun that bakes everything.

Of course Faye won't be here tomorrow so you'll be walking in saying "Faye said I can have some free stuff."

Just talk to Carl, secret password "Faye said". :)

Forgot to say that our kang kong came from plants that had already survived the same conditions in the soil for a few years before we put a sprig in the AP. It's probably adapted to local conditions, which is important if you get a cutting from elsewhere, try to grow it in the same conditions as the parent plant.
