Hey Gnash
I too am a renter (only for a few more weeks :)) I purchased a 10ft (3m) tin shed years ago for my hydro set up, I have had a change of residence 4 times since owning it, It takes me about 30mns to dismantel and about 60mins to re-erect, I used LazerLite sheeting for the roof to supply light. I don't know if this will help for stabilizing tempeture but it would be easier to cool 18cubic meters of air than a whole backyard.

gnash: I too was being silly - I'm clearly not 82; I'm just lying about my age so they'll let me in night clubs with an age limit. (I'm actually 98)

Regarding airconditioning outdoor spaces, I've had great success airconditioning my greenhouse using my aquaponics water with a heat exchanger. A typical Melbourne day is hot in the day and cool at night, 4kL5 is plenty enough to even out the daily temperature swings making my greenhouse a nice even temperature throughout.

I expect kalgoorlie is even better in that regard - hot days and cold nights. (As a general rule the night temperature is strongly correlated to the dewpoint)
