Looking to aquire some trout ~ 50x to run over winter in central NSW
Problem is it wont be cool enough for another month yet and by then it seems stocks will be gone.
Anyone know of supplier who can keep them for a bit longer or any other solution?

Also how much fast can these really be grown out ie months?
I dont want to get caught with hot weather.

Guess you guys on the east coast might be in some troubles with fish stocks this year.

Does anyone have any updates on fish availability over east? I bet there are a few places that have lost all their stock in the floods.

Trout tend to grow as fast as you can feed them without losing water quality... my opinion is to stock at what rate you think you can feed at least 4% without losing quality of water keeping in mind trout are fragile. Also i recommended getting a Compressor type Air Pump and getting lots of DO in the tank, converting GB To CF can help with temp, Shading beds and no pumping during hot times will help, but keeping in mind if your not pumping you need LOTS of AIR running and making sure Temps stay LOW

what water temps are you experiencing at the moment maybe trailing with some measures to curb temps before getting trout will also give you some Peace of mind on getting them.

im pretty sure there is a trout farm near albury on the vic NSW east border pretty sure they wouldnt have been hit by floods

dont hold me too that

Trout - Virtually non-existant, but may have secured 1000 as of this arvo... most pre-sold...
    Catfish - No stocks available
Murray Cod - Available, but small due to first spawn wiped out
Golden Perch - Available, but not recommended for AP
Silver Perch - No problems, small, medium, large
    Mussels - Available, but limited
    Yabbies - Available

Expect to be doing a trout run up through Sydney, Central Coast, Newcastle around 20/03/11

Where the bloody hell are ya... Jet,....

Interesting thread as I was wondering how trout would go in SW NSW?

Curious about your statement about Golden Perch Rupe... local hatchery reckons they would be good in AP as they are hardier than Silvers :? He sells them pre-weaned onto pellets.

Are they OK to use or is there a reason that they shouldnt be? :dontknow:

Yep, the hatcheries sell them "weaned on pellets".... the problem is keeping them on a pellet... and/or from eating one another...

If you get a 30% survival rate.. even in a dam... you've done well... in AP you've performed a bloody miricale

Do you mean "Gatton".... yeah, they're about the only hatchery with any real numbers of stock...

But like you say... it's a long drive...

Email me... if things pan out in the next week or so... I might be able to organise a drop shipment into Dubbo...
