Hi All,
I thought I should start a thread in Member's Systems to show that I do have operating systems and I'm not just a poser!!.
I have also just learnt to upload Video to Youtube, so what better way to start my Thread than with a short video of feeding my fish.

Cheers All IanK

Those sleepy cod look nice.. Do they take a long time to grow, and roughly how big are those ones?

Joel,
They are about 150 to 170mm long at the moment. They were 40mm when I got them last October and from anecdotal evidence they probably take 18 months to 2 years to grow out to a reasonable size for the plate.
I just love their attitude, they come to the surface and all line up looking at you expecting a feed whenever I appear near their tank! :funny1:

They are kept (20 of them) in a modified (insulated) 100 litre FG tank above my main fish tank (with the Silvers and the Goldfish), which is fed from the Grow Bed return water stack by a small 'scavenge' tube arrangement which then overflows via an SLO back into the Main Fish Tank.

I am going to relocate them to the IBC system you kindly featured in the BYAP Mag 10th edition (Thanks once again!) when they reach about 200mm long and restock the top tank with Jade Perch fingerlings for the Autumn/Winter months. The tank water stays above 20 degrees all year so they shouldn't be a problem.

Cheers IanK.

Freaky looking, fish, a bit like a cross between a flat head and a murray cod. Fish with attitudes are interesting, we've got a fairly big Barra in the aquarium here and he's just plain scary to feed, moves so quickly....

Yeah, they are a bit "strange", in fact they are not really a Cod, rather a Gudgeon or Goby. But, supposedly the best eating freshwater fish in Australia.
Here is some info about them from my supplier.
http://www.ausyfish.com/sleepycod.htm
I didn't wean them onto pellets, just kept feeding it to them until they got hungry enough to eat them! I do give them some (frozen) Blood worms as a treat every now and then and they go mad over them.
Cheers IanK.

Not yet Ben, still out of work so can't spend a lot on fittings etc. Will get on to it when I get another paying job.
Bit hard at 60, nobody wants to know you and yet they all want a 20 year old with 40 years experience!! and pay them as a 16 year old! Got me beat at the moment.

Still, my system keeps me sane and watching fish is a remarkable form of therapy.

Cheers IanK

Jades arrived today for IBC back yard system, to compliment the existing Gold Fish.
They look tiny! and all but these 6 made it!!

Obviously from low DO, note gaping mouths, red gills and red fins. So, other than being dead, they look quite healthy!
Sourced from Livefish.com and overnight air freighted.

They looked quite happy to be out of their plastic bags and immediately started chasing the Goldfish around for schooling protection.

Cheers IanK
