Hi, Can anyone let me know what it is like living in Albany? Is it like Perth where there some areas that are better avoided for housing and schools for the kids? Been offered work down that way and am seriously considering it. Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers Rob

Lived there years ago...but not so sure of the good/bad areas anymore. At the time Yakamia and Lockyer were the don't go after dark burbs but the times change.

If you get a chance to go down there, have a look at the different burbs and look closley at the roofs.
If there are no evap a/c's on alot of the houses in one area or there are small A/C's jammed in the windows with board covering the rest of the openings then you will be in a Homes West area...and Homes West houses are not the best to live next to :naughty:

Agreed with gnash, it has changed alot, my family is from there, choose the right area and you'll be right, It is a beautiful place, but can get bitter cold in the winter. Try area's out of Albany like Millbrook, Lower King, There are some small acre blocks out there, I have a family owned block in millbrook of 22 acres they are subdividing alot around there at the moment. I still have some cousins living there I can enquire for you as the best area's to try if you want. I have thought of moving there plenty of times but the wife won't do the cold.

Nice chance to get something a little semi rural down there if you're that way inclined. My brother lives out of town between Albany and Denmark, beautiful area, I was down there only a couple of weeks ago. While Perth was suffering 40+ temperatures it was 25 and drizzly down there... :)

Call the local council and police station. They should be able to advise on the rough areas. Some real estate agents are also able to advise but make you get few opinions just in case one of them is baised for his own interest.

Best advice I can give is to find Rustlers Steakhouse asap :P
If I was moving to the area I would be looking for something past the 1st hills. The wind straight off the ocean can be constant and cold.
Personally I would be avoiding the housing area on the hill near the port as well.
