No need to ban anyone yet I reckon, just send a warning that type of posting will not be tolerated and future posts to that end will be deleted.

Just a quick comment to clear up my cracks about Yabbies,

It should only be taken with a pinch of salt, sorry if anyone took offense to it I just said they were homicidal murderers because there was a conversation about them killing each other on PAP and Rupe made the funny comment about the trouble with them was they are homicidal murderers, or something like that, I was just trying to lighten things up and get BOT.Sorry about that folks no offence intended.

So Rupe, with the yabbies, do you think you will need the seasol? would the yabbies alone be enough for the plants?

Cheers.

Yep, probably no room in the tank for anyone else... even if it's a different tank...

And he'll rearrange the tank to suit himself... just coz he can...

Cool will do,

It might seem an odd question to ask just out of the blue but will do.

Cheers.

Someone has just directed me to the other forum where Crusty was having a go at my fish killing video on youtube..

Quote:
Take Joel Malcomes recent ridiculous video on "how to dispatch a fish" for example. The man messes about with the fish in the net for a good few minutes trying to get it out, then drops it on the ground, then messes about trying to get his fingers under the gills and 8 minutes later the fish is dead. It takes about 1 minute to catch and kill a fish that way. Great for fisherman but I would use that technique.

:laughing3: Gees ok... Harsh critic..

Wrong spelling of my name, and the total length of video including opening and closing credits is just over 2 minutes. In fact, I've just had a look, and when you take out the start and finish, the actual time until the fish is killed from start to finish is about 1.10... About what he's recommend, even though I dropped it and buggered up a bit during the video.. :thumbleft:

Dunno where the 8 minutes comes from, seems that it's really just becoming about personal bashing of anyone he doesn't like, littered with assumptions and exaggerations..

I guess I have a pretty good idea of who the one person is that gave the video the thumbs down on youtube..

EB, the fish killing video was just fine. :headbang: I don't see his fish killing video.

Yours wasn't staged, fish are slippery and tough to hold. Folks need to know that. If you reached in the net and picked up a limp fish before dispatching it I would give the video a thumbs down (I didn't).

I think that one of the priceless virtues of this forum is the generosity of spirit of most of its contributors—both those who have run threads and those who have posted their thoughts on those threads. It is vital that people posting on this forum feel comfortable to share their failures (including fish deaths); to ask “stupid” questions—and to suggest “possibly stupid” answers—because surely that is the fastest way to learn. This sort of process is particularly important in a new field like aquaponics where so many people are innovating in such a variety of circumstances.

But when people feel they might be personally attacked they tend to clam-up and then we all lose because far fewer ideas are exchanged, and fewer risks are taken. You can read extensive system threads on this forum from people like Rup, EB, OBO, TCLynx, Faye, and Duff, where the worst thing that happens to anyone is they get a gentle ribbing in a posting that ends with a stack of smiley’s (just to make sure that no feelings have been hurt). This good-natured style of exchange has never stopped people on this forum from having very thorough and informative disagreements about designs and principles. I reckon our differences—sensibly expressed—are probably our greatest strength: Long may it continue.

Crusty is obviously an expert at everything in life so we cant hope to live up to his lofty crusty standards.
So I for one wont even try.
