My system is flourishing on cf might just be my selection of plants iv got at the moment

Would adding another bed and 1 smaller pump to fill it on a timer be an idea.

Looks to me that a mixture of CF and F&D would be great. Then its a matter of working out which plants like each system, leafy in CF would be a good start. As well as the CF being better for some plants it also adds lots of filtration without the need for a larger sump which is a consideration in my system.

Loving this thread.

heck, my big system kinda requires a variety since it is a CHIFT PIST using he Indexing Valve, I have to have a few beds getting the overflow and they are constant flood.

Water Cress does really well with the constant flood

Joel
With system 3 (flood and drain) does the system actually drain for the full 45 minutes or does it drain out in say 25 minutes and sit empty for the remaining 20 minutes?

The draining of beds varies depending on a few different factors. As the water level in the bed drops, the draining does slow somewhat through the 2 x 6mm holes. The flow just gets less and less over time and I imagine that it probably wouldn't completely drain for perhaps an hour and a half or possibly even more. But when do you consider it empty? When it's stopped dribbling and dripping, or when the flow from the bed slows right down and there's not much of a visible depth in the standpipe surround. Root growth in the bed can cause the flow from a bed to be a fair bit slower too.

The music is called "Sunny Autumn Main Theme", it's commercially available music that you can buy the royalty free rights to, for use in videos etc... Being a business we have to do these things properly. :)

I suppose when you think about it system 1 and 3 are essentially both flood and drain systems just the flood and drain times vary along with the frequency.
With constant flood there is not much to vary, unlike flood and drain which would probably have hundreds of operating techniques.
I am thinking in multiple growbed systems that a combination of different techniques may work best?

System 3 is still ahead, but the others are looking a lot better. Measurements day has changed to Mondays, Carl took them last week, I'll get him to put up 2 lots of data this coming Monday.

Chili bushes in system 3 are going crazy, bit hard to see when they are green still, but there are loads...

And capsicums are doing really well too, this bush has at least 10 fruit on it, with more flowers as well. The plant next to it has at least 6 fruit as well. Looks like we'll be making some sweet capsicum sauce this year.
