Yeah, they are good for shallow tanks, but once your over 1m deep they are hopeless.

That blower has a pressure of 7.5 kpa and it needs 9.8 kpa to blow down 1 metre
So it means that blower will struggle to get to .73 m deep so efectivley it will probley only blow an air stine at 1/2 metre go for the electro magnetic pumps :P

Food & Fish, I brought an electrio magnetic pump from guppies. Are they supposed to be really hot when they run? I installed mine a few days ago but the machine is too hot to hold on to. Is this normal?

The basic design ,, aluminium finned body suggests they are heat producers. Warm but can still hold would seem normal to me ,, say 45C ???

sounds like it is pretty normal then. I'll just have to keep an eye on it. Thanks everyone.

Back on line here again.

Following the extended stretch of high overnight temperatures, the Trout are suffering. 20 dead today and likely that more will die overnight. Those with clear eyes were cleaned and some frozen. Ate 3 tonight for dinner - Yum.

In anticipation of the remaining trout carking it in the next day or 3, I would like to get more fish and wonder what varieties are available at this time of year.

Are there Silvers available?
I suppose it is too late for Barramundi and, given my FT normally sits at under 25°C unless overnight temperatures are above 23°C, probably a bit too cool for rapid growth also.

What other fish would be suited to Aquaponics at this time of year in Perth?

Regards,
Tony

Silver Perch but I think supplies at the moment might be low. Carey Nagle (Gidgyganup) may have some, but I heard GP has none yet.

The rest of the Trout have carked it, despite cooler weather and tank temperatures returning to 22°C

This means that I have an empty FT and a need for nutrients.

I will call GP tomorrow to see what they have available.

Regards,
Tony
