Generally the four corners of Aus, have been IMHO the best places. SW WA: old growth forests, fishing, camping and bushwalks...
NW: Beautiful beaches, sun sets and more fishing. NE: Fantastic rainforests, fishing, barrier reef. Then we have well... Melbourne... Umm, yeah there Ok I guess. HeHe (I might be banned soon, sorry Steve).

As for spiders and snakes... I kill a redback once a week, but never been bitten nor knows someone who has. I see plenty of snakes... mostly on long bush treks getting to a fishing spot. Never at home. Have been bitten by a Dugite which sent me to hospital... once I realised I was bitten (thought it was a stick). Wildlife is abundant, we get hawks and eagles, bobtail and blue tongue lizards. We can hand feed magpies and twenty eights (port lincoln ringneck).

Best part about where I live... 15 mins from city, 15 mins from 'countryside', 15 mins from work, 1 mins from shops and fishing north, south, east and west. Plus more beaches than I can count on both hands.

Someone asked about UNI... 3 years at Murdoch (BTech, BE) which is a middle range uni would cost me $18K+ I would pay that off over 15 years in my tax (called HEX). If I paid in full I get ~25% discount. That is about standard for uni's here. Notre Dame, which is a private UNI may be more expensive.

Pursikat: I agree public and primary school education is terrible, but is mostly due to the fact that noneo of the kids want to be there. Private schools, are different, some (like Mazenod) have a no BS attitude and kick you out after three strikes. Plus you are paying $2500 a year and they are a better learing environment IMHO. Where I work it is a bigger school and different again, it lacks a bit of motivation but it give plenty of oppertunity for those that want to learn and career options for those that don't.

hey buddy, we got most liveable city in the world. suck on that. Must have been a typo ;)

Such a difference in schools , i see alot doing AC maintenance. One private primary school i do the kids are top notch, respectful and all, others mostly public not only do the kids disrespect the teachers, but some of these litle bastards even give me shit.

Who knows, maybe its the parents maybe its the teachers, maybe its a combo of both?

I'f i had kids i'd definatly go private primary at least. Very impressionable age.

Me too, 15mins from the city, 15 mins from the airport, 30 mins from the beach and 30 mins from the country

Might pick one of those for the honeymoon.

Just make sure all you Americans watch out for the hoop snakes and the drop bears. Don't want any sudden suprises to come about. Over all if you had to compare an Aussie to some one else I would go with canadians. I spent 9 months in Tville and Darwin and a lot of the same traits can be found in us. They even say "Eh!" in the NT. I think our shared nature has something to do with sharing a queen (not that we really know who she is but she is the queen. Which is another thing that America has different than OZ.

Australia is more conservative then Canada but politics are treated about the same. All you hear is people complaing or ignoring the issues. Who gets a ellected is about the only thing anyone cares about.

People in Oz are a lot more laid back than most americans. and also in Australia you can own a whole pile of land (one cattle ranch wasa or is the size of texas). Though what you would do with all that sand is beside me.

Another thing about Oz that was really funny to learn is that the Aussie accent changes quite drasticly from area to are. the NT'ers gotta drawl along with the FNQ's and The SA's got this thing (mostly the girls) with making whiney sounds at the ends of their no's when they get angry.

Um what else I can;t remember.

Oh Wait and Aussies drink good beer :occasion5: just like canadian's none of that Bull piss Budwiser :pukeright: or water downed garbage.

Or heiniken... !! Piss water... I DON'T drink VB (another Aussie Stereotype)!!! Does anybody here do?

You gotta watch those drop bears!!!, they drop down on ya from the trees without warning... My cousin was taken to hospital with deep lacerations....

On a more serious note... if you go up north... check if it safe to swim or even go near a body of water before you do... crocs frighten me more than noahs, snakes and spiders combined. You just need to be careful and educated about the dangers and you will be fine...

Have you not heard of drop bears steve... They are everywhere, more common than the cane toad... They introduced them in 1975 to combat the influx of English backpackers... they grow to the size of a koala, with razor sharp claws and predominately live in trees, only dropping down to feed.
